    Graphic card question..

Are you saying that a 450W PSU is inadequate for a system when 400W is specified as the minimum? Seems unlikely. eVGA wants a minimum of 20A at +12V for the CPU that they recommend. I don't know which model of Thermaktake PSU "BunnyJ" has, but their Toughpower model is rated at 37A.

It may be worthwhile comparing the 750ti. It's a newer chipset (Maxwell instead of Kepler). I'm not sure that it's performance is much better than a GDD5 740, though.

  2. Yes, it is inadequate for a system when 400W is specifed as the minimum. I wouldn't buy any graphics card if my PSU only have 50W left which can leads the system become unstable during gaming. Also, GTX 750 is a Maxwell architecture not Kepler architecture.

There is literary no major performance different going from 750 to 750TI. You're looking around 7% different, it like the same thing to AMD R9 280 and AMD R9 280X.

You can use pcpartspicker.com and enter all your components. It'l tell you if they're compatible with each other and what total wattage they're likely to use.

@Bunny J, your power supply will be fine. The 740 has a TDP of 64W and uses 1 6 pin connector. The Manufacturer's always overestimate the power supplies, because they do not know what other components you have installed or what type quality your power supply is.

The polite response is to say that I disagree about the power margin. Particularly when the critical parameter (available amperage on the +12V line) is greatly exceeded. eVGA asks for a minimum of 20A, which should be available from a really poor 400W PSU. "BunnyJ's" Thermaltake 450W PSU is probably a lot better than that,

Um, I posted that the 750ti is a Maxwell GPU (instead of Kepler). Was my use of parentheses confusing?

I missed that the 04G-P4-3748-KR requires a 6 pin PCI-E power connector. If "BunnyJ's" PSU lacks that, it would be a good reason to go with a 750ti, rather than using the Molex adapter supplied with the 740.

    Graphic card question..

That's a little weird. The eVGA 950 is listed as requiring a maximum of 110W, vs 64 for the 740 and 60 for the 750ti, but the minimum recommended PSU is less. It's unclear to me whether the 950 has significantly better performance than a 750ti, though.

Wait for the 1050? It's probably at least a little better than the 950, and lower power. (New Pascal chip.) It may be available in mid-October.

I checked my power supply and I have that connector so I'm all set to use the 950. *Smile

In the FWIW department, I have an overclocked 140 W CPU and a 980 Classified GPU. EVGA Recommends a minimum 600W PSU. My system is hooked up through a UPS. With the CPU overclocked and the GPU at stock, during a GPU Stress test, I show I am pulling 380 W from the PSU.

EDIT: That was with Heaven set to extreme, which is a GPU bound test. It uses strictly the GPU.

I tried it with Firestrike extreme which stresses both the CPU and GPU. The most my system pulled was 425 W.

    Actual measured data. Very nice.

I'll have to see what my UPS reports. Hadn't occurred to me to use that feature.
