Basically my big Music folder is broken into multiple different formats -- FLAC, MP3, WMA Lossless, etc -- so that I have a format for every occasion and device I use to play the music. I like the simplicity of Groove Music but the simplicity leads to a bit of vagueness in which format it's choosing to use when I play a song. If I look at the properties of a song it lists the folders where that exact song is found, but gives no indication of which one of those folders it's playing from. Does it prefer "Best Quality" (i.e. FLAC)? Or does it prefer "Smallest File" (i.e. MP3)?

I'm fine with not having an option of where to pick it from as long as it prefers highest quality as the default, but so far I haven't found any indication of what it's using.

quick edit: Also, does anyone know if Groove replaces metadata for my tracks? I went through a lot of effort tagging everything accurately and completely, and I wouldn't appreciate having that undone.

  2. Groove music downloads - file format?

i have never used Groove for music simply because I have an iPhone so my music management has always been iTunes. But I was curious about groove. One thing I can't find any info for is if you was to buy a music track from groove/Windows store what file format is downloaded? On iTunes it's typically an m4a format

My Groove music suddenly stopped playing files when I doubleclick on them (groove music launches but is blank). I can use a different player but I have to click into that player as Groove Music is my default. I am reorganizing all of my music (tens of thousands of files) and this won't work for me.
    Any suggestions?
    I have Windows 10 on a PC.
I found an online troubleshooting that suggesting I delete temporary files and reset Internet explorer which I did and which has not helped.
    thank you
(I am also not super tech savy so laymen's instructions is appreciated)

I set everything up with file explorer(the music files themselves) then used Windows Media Player(in all apps) to set up my playlist's(in my case by genre and shuffled) then Groove found the playlists and I pinned them to start. I prefer the sound quality from Groove(I use HDMI to my Home Cinema) and the UI for just playing,
