Windows 10: Group policy client service - cant connect

Hi,

I've been using my Windows 10 laptop (initially came with Win 8.0, upgraded to Win8.1 then to 10) and this after noon when I booted, Windows started OK, but when I try to log into my a/c I get the error

And upon clicking OK, it just signs out (and in this case, is really taking long to sign out)

disable Group Policy client service for Home versions without gpedit.exe?

Windows 10 home 64 bits

My OS has no gpedit.exe but a Group Policy client service enabled. I have no home group, just a PC with 2 users connected to a router.

Can I safely disable the Group Policy client service or I may have problems when connecting to a public WIFI or other,

 

Could be anything, an update to OS, driver, SW ...

Can you boot to safe mode?

I'd recommend a restore to before it occurred as a first try:

Right click the start button and choose system
From the left column choose System Protection.
Click the System Restore button
Click the Next button
You may need to check the box at the bottom that says, "Show more restore points"
Pick a date / point in time before the problem occurred and see if that helps.

I couldn't "reach" the safe boot option as I couldn't even log in.
However, I booted my laptop with an Ubuntu live DVD, shut down, then booted up back in Windows 10 and voila!! it worked. I'm back into my Windows 10 system booted in as a user.

I do have one question at this stage - in earlier WIn versions, we could get into safe mode right during boot by using F8 and this option (if I'm not wrong) was removed as from Win 8 onwards? and one would need to be logged in to get safe boot in the next reboot.
What about a scenario where one can't even log in and reach the option to reboot in safe mode?

Yeah recovery in win 8 / 10 is a pain if you cant get into it in the first place. I apologize, because after I typed about safe mode I realized you likely weren't getting to a position to get there, my bad, but you found another elegant solution.

What you would need is a recovery USB drive as one option, and here is an article on making one, and commands you could do to set the bootmenupolicy to legacy, which gives you back the F8 options.

Note: I haven't tried this myself *Smile But don't necessarily see it as doing anything harmful to the system overall.
