Windows 10: GUI broken, unable to fix with SFC

So I updated 4 or 3 days ago and my UI gets unresponsive a lot, can't create new windows, move them, open start, alt-tab doesn't work as well... I did SFC /scannow that helped last time with such issue, but this time it didn't.

It's 3 months old installation with updates slowed downed for 10 days because I don't trust MS again and it shows.

Is there any fix beside reinstall? I did my research and couldn't find the answer.

SFC unable to fix some of Windows Files

HI Ali. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

Make sure you did everything in this checklist Step 10 for running SFC including confirming the System image by which it checks the files with DISM, then try SFC three separate times to see if it can repair the files:

If not then move on to Step 11 to run a Repair Install, which keeps your files, settings and apps in place while reinstalling WIndows to replace all of the files including the damaged ones. This is NOT a typical Reset or reinstall of WIndows since it saves
everything in place, takes about an hour, solves most problems by the easiest method possible. This is always the next step when SFC cannot repair broken files.

SFC Finds Corrupt Files but is Unable to Fix

When you get this error it means that the System File Check a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection simply could add/repair missing or corrupted files or other problems with these files.

If you get this error you should try the following a few times:

• sfc/scannow
• reboot
• sfc/scannow

Only when after a few times sfc/scannow still hasn't solved it, then you could try DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.

A reboot is necessary for sfc in order to try to fix the problems, it usually takes a few tries for sfc to solve the problems.

 

SFC errors - how to identify/fix?

As one (not particularly hopeful) step in trouble-shooting a problem (Cortana not opening reliably) I used sfc /scannow from an elevated command. At its conclusion I got this message:

"Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios."

I opened that log file - but it's 52,000 lines long! How could a user be expected to isolate it from that? More important, what are suggested ways for me to proceed please? Apart from ignoring the unidentified problem(s).
