Windows 10: Hacked

I called 888-902-2514 thinking it was Netgear tech support. I wanted help opening a router port for a home security system. Thinking it was Netgear I gave them access to my computer. Later I realized it wasn't Netgear and they were trying to sell me a firewall for $199. I ended the call and connection. I know they accessed my computer and router. I turned my computer off and brought it to work and I'm removing the hard drive replacing it with a new one and reinstalling my files. I'm having to reinstall all my software. Hopefully that will prevent any issues with that.


My question is , do I need to replace my router. Could they have opened up a way to get into my computer via my router when I hook up my computer back to my home wifi?


I'm in the process of changing passwords on all my accounts and I'm doing that all from my work computer.

Email Hacked

Hello Greg

thank you for your response and the great information you provided.

I use two step authentication for my email account and all important web sites. I also use the full version of Malwarebytes to protect my computer.

But I will do the scans you suggested AdwCleaner and Limewire.com and let you know the results.

I am worried though that the webcam installed on my laptop could have been hacked. I never use it and forgot about it, so never disabled it.

Any suggestions as to find if it was actually hacked?

77000 Steam accounts hacked every month

Ironically I've had the same crappy password since I made my Steam when HL2 came out and never been hacked, but I've had my Origin account jacked twice with a much more complicated password. 2 step on Origin fixed this problem, but just thought it was kind of funny. I went with 2 step on Steam to be safe too.
