Everything has a purpose and everything will not always be perfect. I am one of the few who had no major issues upgrading my computer I activated on December 26, 2014 with windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on November 5, 2015. To this day things are still going strong. I bought this computer as a christmas present for myself on December 20, 2014. As most issues go it is usally not the companies fault but user error.

Geez, i just wrote half a page about drivers and their complexity and lost power for a second. I ain't about to start all over again but let me just remind you about DOS days. At that time programs, every program, had to work almost directly with HW which meant that even smallest program had to "know" how every piece of HW works in order to work with all the computers running DOS. At that time variety of HW was minuscule comparing to today's conditions. Imagine a today's program, even if it's just few lines of code it would be worth gigabytes by the time it's ready to work on all the combinations of HW.
That's why APIs were invented, they are common hooks in windows to drivers and they are responsibility of MS while parts manufacturers have to make the rest of a driver to conform to those conditions. DirectX is one good example of a collection of APIs.
So as you see, there's no one side that has to be given kudos or lay a blame on. Of course there's much more to it, anybody remembers start of P&P (Plug and Play) and the namee we used to call it, Plug and Pray ? It's much better now but scarcely anybody pays attention to it or even know of it's existence.

Count, your showing your age. Not that many go back that far these days. Just think what it would be like if people had to install modems like we used to. Also remember when MS first included usb support, when there wasn't any usb hardware to support? Ah, the good old days.

Yes, I remember USB ind Firewire, years passed until something useful showed up for them but I was already middle aged than.

I love this sort of debate, what it really shows is that we all have our own perspective when it comes down to it*Party. That's fine, but accusing users of the problems is a bit much. Yes you will get some that are ignorant of how to prepare a PC for upgrade, but MS is putting this out to the general public to do, their choice!
My point was that even on a bog standard PC in excellent working order I came a cropper and wasted a day of my own time (and expertise) rectifying it. If I knew beforehand what would happen I wouldn't have done it, would I?
If, as suggested, a clean install of 10 is required that's fine too, but it's not what we were offered.
Of course, years ago I'd have been rubbing my hands with glee at all the extra work coming my way*Cool, col.

What I don't like is people claiming that Windows 10 is no good for anyone.

  9. Thank you! The purpose of this forum is to share information and help people problems they may have, but it defies any logic, common sense, and technical knowledge to claim Windows 10 is broken, unstable, worthless, and unable to be used by anyone.

I think the problem members have with the OP is that it just seems to be a rant, and that's not what this forum is about. While he identified things he was unhappy with, he never actually asked for help how to correct those problems.

I don't mind some ranting but just to blame MS for everything gets a bit silly IMO..

I think many that blame windows 10 as useless are probably linux users . Can you imagine the damages windows 10 is causing on all those involve with linux since their main thing about linux is its free, now that windows 10 is free, free to those that qualify I'm sure it doesn't help linux . Also, Am I the only one that thinks there something really odd with this forum towards how many first time poster, hmmm

Please keep the name of the forum in mind, Windows TenForums. That's probably why there's so many relatively new members that may be older members in the Win7 and Win8/8.1 forums provided by the same company. That's why I'm shown as Aug 2014, just was getting started with Win10 Technical Preview. Missed out on Windows 9 since it never happened.

I also have a couple of Linux computers and a MacBook Pro, about the only reason I don't use them full-time is having to search for programs that are compatible with Windows-based programs. I'm positive there are compatible programs, just haven't had time to look for them yet, maybe when it gets colder. Most programs for a Mac have to be bought.

I just have one thing to say and that is no os weather its windows or apple is useless. The only reason it may seem useless is people that don't know how to use it or are people who don't know much about computers in general. That's all I got on the matter.

I would not mind using Linux if it would only do everything Windows can. I use several Linux distros on this machine and others, a live Linux on USB and CD but they are for special purposes only.
