Windows 10: Hard drive inaccessible, parameter incorrect

Last night for an unknown reason, my 1 TB Seagate external hard drive wasnt allowing me to use things inside of it or open it. It would tell me the parameters were incorrect. When it was plugged in, I was unable to use the taskbar with the start menu unresponsive and my cursor turning into a loading cursor when it was on the taskbar. I eventually found out to open cmd as admin and run chkdsk F: /f /r. I tried that last night and it seems to be working but I left it going over night. It has been about twelve hours and it is on stage 4. It was on stage four when I went to bed. It says stage is only 14% done and total is 39% done, with about 19 hours remaining on the ETA timer. The last 2 entries in cmd also now say that there is not enough space to replace bad clusters. Do I really have to wait for this to complete or is there another method? Any help is appreciated.

How to check permission for external hard drive.

1. Right click on the external hard drive and select properties.

2. Under security and make sure that the drive is not under sharing mode, it should be under your ownership.

The error "This Parameter is incorrect" usually happens because of a system or disk errors. To isolate this issue, we suggest running CHKDSK using the command prompt. Running CHKDSK
can check the integrity of a hard disk and can repair various file system errors. To run CHKDSK follow these steps:

• Plug in external hard drive, USB drive or memory card to the computer.
• Press Windows Key + X and then select Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the Command Prompt window, type chkdsk E: /f /r. You should replace E with the drive letter of your external hard drive or external device.
• Restart your PC once the process is done.

Hard Drive folder Not Accessible "The Parameter is Incorrect"

Hi all,

I just upgraded to Windows 10 recently and today I was trying to connect my External Hard drive to backup my data and try to do a "clean" installation of Windows 10. When I connected my hard drive it gave me an error:

"G:\ is not accessible

The parameter is incorrect."

I tried different things and it looks like the Windows 10 system is recognizing my Hard Drive with a File Format "RAW" instead of the NTFS file format that it is.

I've checked that the hard drive is working properly in another computer and everything looks fine - File format and all the files are accessible.

I also tried to change the letter assignment that the Windows 10 system gave to the drive originally, to see if it will fix the problem as suggested in another post, but it didn't.

I don't think it is a permissions issue or anything like that. I think something might be messed up with the way that the Windows 10 is reading this Hard Drive.

Can someone help me with this? It will be greatly appreciate it!
