Windows 10: hard drive on hp notebook laptop

I recently acquired an hp laptop and it said install operating system and cannot find boot device. I ran the test on the hard drive and it failed so I replaced it with a 500gb hd I was using in my desktop for recording music for extra storage. I ran the test again and it came back fine. im putting windows 10 on a usb right not to install in the laptop. are there going to be any other drives or anything I need to get the computer back up and running?

battery not charging on my hp notebook

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I see that your laptop’s battery is not charging. We would like to know, if you get a message stating plugged in not charging when hovering the mouse over the battery icon.

If you see the message plugged in not charging, I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below and see if that helps:

Press Windows Logo key + X, and select
Device Manager.

Expand Battery.

Right click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery, and select
Uninstall.

Click OK to confirm.

Restart the computer.

Step 3: Recovering the notebook BIOS using a key press combination
When you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, a copy of the previous BIOS version is stored in the HP_TOOLS partition of your hard drive. Many HP notebook computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure.

Use these steps even if you cannot see anything on the monitor:
1. Turn off the computer.
2. Connect the notebook to a power source using the power adapter.
3. Press and hold the Windows key and the B key at the same time while the computer is off.
4. While still pressing the Windows key and the B key, hold down the Power button on the notebook for one second, and then release the Power button and the keys.

The power LED light remains on, and the screen remains blank for about 40 seconds. You might hear beeping sounds. Eventually, an HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically.
If recovering the BIOS did not resolve the blank screen problem, proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Laptop hard drive upgrade

To replace a hard drive on a laptop is a little more troublesome than a desktop. 1st as most people here suggest you will need some sort of a backup disk just in case. Also be sure when buying the new Hard Disk is compatible with your model. And i would strongly suggest you install a new system and start from scratch because there are far too many problems that can occur when transferring system files.
