Windows 10: Hard drive problem Windows 10, HP all-in-one 2HJ22AA, Error code 0x80070780

My HP all-in-one Model no. 2HJ22AA would not start Windows 10 on the weekend and I have been attempting to recover the computer and the data that is on it. Here is what I have done so far:

1. Ran CHKDSK /f /r using the command prompt overnight. It all seemed to be ok except the following message 'failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50'

2. I created a Windows 10 bootable USB drive and tried to reload Windows 10. The program commences to run and then provides the error message: 'We couldn’t create a new partition or locate an existing one'

3. All my files are in Onedrive and I can see them on my other computer HP laptop. If I was certain that they were safe I would be happy to reformat the hard drive or get a new hard drive and start again. However, when I try to open an individual file in onedrive it will not open at all. I have also tried to copy the onedrive files to an external hard drive - both from my laptop and using the 'notepad.exe file transfer shortcut' though the command prompt on the desktop. In both cases I get the error message 'Error code 0x80070780' for each individual file.

Can someone help me to

a. identify the problem

b. advise how to secure all the document files before I take more radical action

c. advise the appropriate next step. I am happy to get a new hard drive or whatever, but need to secure the files currently in onedrive / desktop hard drive Thanks .

What is Error 0X80070780


I'm trying to copy quite a few files from one hard drive to another.... neither one is the C Drive .... their both internal secondary drives. I Keep randomly getting " Can't access the files due to Error 0x80070780 " I've tried researching it, and can't seem to get to the bottom of it. Tried checking it for errors via windows built in tool via the Properties. Can't figure out or if its possible to run SFC /Scannow on a disk that's not C Drive. Any suggestions on free software to run to check for any errors?

I am preparing to send my computer back to the manufacturer for repairs. As such I am trying to copy my C local disk/ Users folder to an external drive. A lot of files copy then I start getting the error code 0x80070780 File cannot be accessed by the system.


What does this error really mean? and do I really need these files? How do I get around this to get my Users folder copied?

Any help would be appreciated.

Windows 7 Professional keeps dropping the DVD/CD drive

Working with a fresh install (2nd attempt) of Windows 7 Professional on new hardware. The motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. Running 4G of RAM and an Intel Q9400 Quad Core CPU. The DVD/CD optical drive is a Pioneer DVR-218L.

Here's the problem - after two fresh installs, Windows 7 drops the DVD/CD drive and I get the following error in Device Manager (The device cannot start {code 10}). After the install, the drive works for a period of time, then stops working and I get the error code.

The driver appears to be a standard Windows driver (CD-ROM driver).

I've tried uninstalling the drive and re-installing it in Device Manager but it does not work - I continue to get the device error.

I've also swapped out the DVD/CD drive to insure it's not a bad unit. Same problem with both drives.

What do you suggest for next steps?? Could it be an issue with the motherboard?? A driver problem?

I visited the Pioneer web site - could not find any help or additional Windows 7 drivers.
