Hard Shutdown whenever games are played within 5 min + low temps

    Hello,

My 2014 Razer Blade has always performed fine, but in the past few months every time I start a video game the computer will hard shut down after a few minutes. This is true even when playing WoW on the lowest settings and with stable 40-50 FPS up until the shutdown.

After the shut down if I try to start it up again it will instantly shut back down until I wait a few minutes.

I had thought this was a temp issue, but running GPU/CPU-z with logging shows temps for both the Nvidia 870M and CPU cores never going above 60-70C until the shutdown occurs.

I checked the crash logs with bluescreenviewer and it appears to think an Nvidia GPU driver is causing the crashes, but I've fresh installed the drivers both manually and with Geforce experience and neither seems to solve the issue.

I've tried adjusting in the Nvidia control panel to just run the computer with the 870M or the integrated Intel card, but neither seem to solve the problem. When running the Intel card it had bad artifacting as well.

    Logs are attached below.

    :)

I've filled in that information more fully, but as this is a Laptop it doesn't have PSU/Cooling info beyond basic Razer details.

I see a lot of these entries in the event log.

If so that may be the cause. Try replacing the USB cable or completely removing it for now. If that doesn't help, try disconnecting from the UPS and plugging directly into a surge protector. Most UPSes has some ports that are just surge protected so you could try that.

I don't have it connected to a UPS - just to the charger and a wall socket. I think I have a spare power charger, so ill try using that + using a different wall socket to see if that helps.

Hard Shutdown whenever games are played within 5 min + low temps

Had similar issues with my old laptop. It's most likely gpu overheating. If it's not a gpu cooling system malfunction, then your gpu is in its final days...
Good or bad, laptops with Nvidia / ATI gpu exhibit such problems after some time (3+ years). That's why I choosed to replace my old laptop with one that has an Intel gpu. Far more reliable, and decent performance unless u are a heavy gamer...
Unfortunately gpu repair is not a viable choice, since it will most likely show the same problems after 6-12 months due to re-soldiering problems...
Good luck anyway, I was troubled with this for almost a year...
