For those who don't know, Windows 10 will become a subscription service. Enterprise will be first at about $7 a user per month. Consumers will come later at about $5 per user per month. That is why they tried to force everyone to Windows 10.

  2. I try to like Windows 10 but this 1709 update is Microsoft's latest test of patience. If I have to set up Edge in that wilfully clunky UI one more time, I might just stop using it. As for removing the full size option in the touch keyboard, I just ...don't .....understand. As for still more of the Settings app displaying 'Some settings are hidden...', if Microsoft has no urge to fix the underlying problem then there will come a day when none of the 'Settings' can be changed. Oh man! What a mess!

Can you link to any official (Microsoft) document supporting that claim please.

    Hi,
Well that is the fun part of win-10 starting over after large updates ?
People are getting religious about the need to clean install these large build updates to fix issues
To me that is a fairly lame approach to claiming win-10 is as stable as it gets *Biggrin
Seems to me is it just the opposite of stable if the above holds a drop of water *Confused

I haven't done a clean install in a long time
I relived a install from a replaced 8 year old Acer board that was free upgraded twice from 7 home premium to 8.1 pro to win-10 pro.
Replace the board inserted the same ssd with the original win-10 on it and reactivated it with a new win-7 pro key.
But I have had to redo every setting after these updates.
Which is getting very old and time consuming.

  6. Subscription (volume License) for Windows has been around for ages. It just wasn't available to the consumer. It's geared for Corporate customers You currently can't buy a single license. That may change. It has advantages, Software assurance for example.

Office 365 has been around for a while too. Its geared more for the consumer side though. That looks to be changing.

That doesn't mean it will be the only option. I haven't seen anything official from Microsoft stating subscription will be the only option.

Has anyone decided to go back to 7 or 8.1?

This makes perfect sense, and if not, people, myself included will just pirate Windows 10 or use a crack on our current version, easy as that.

What utter nonsense. MS have made it clear they will not do this. You have no evidence to support this. It is pure speculation and not even particularly original.

Your last sentence is nonsense, as any user has right to use old licence, and equally any user with a windows 10 licence now has one in perpetuity.

  10. Enterprise and Pro can currently be volume licensed. Home can't though. Pro can also be switched to VL, or upgraded to Enterprise with a simple product key change.

  11. You really should get your facts straight. The Enterprise Edition of Windows 10 is already a subscription plan and always has been. The Enterprise Edition can only be Activated via a volume licence subscription. The only exception is MAK keys used for testing. Pro can be Volume Licensed but doesn't have to be. Plenty of companies use Pro Retail licenses and even OEM Pro installs.

I dumped Windows 7 when 8 came out came out and never looked back. Don't plan on doing so now. Don't plan on going back to 8. Happy with this latest version of 10.

If you follow rumor and conjecture you'd think they said it *sarc

But seriously I'm like you, I'll believe it when I see it and hear it from Microsoft themselves.

I don't believe it will happen - but I can't rule it out entirely either. Fortunately I saved the original OEM Windows 7 as system images and/or as spare drives for my machines. I can (and do) restore these occasionally to keep their updates current. Then I go straight back to the latest Windows 10 because that just seems to work better.

It's 'interesting' to go back to Windows 7 (or even XP). On the surface they look very different, but under the surface the are fundamentally all the same operating system, just at differing stages of development. After a while you learn to ignore the UI and they all feel much the same.

I feel I could even get on with Windows 8 now, perhaps I'll get myself a second hand machine and try it out *Smile

No offense, Intrepid1, but it appears you are your own source. And both of your links are to Windows 10 IT Pro. One is a rag-sheet with pure speculation. The other.... a quote from it:

With Windows 10 version 1703 (also known as the Creator’s Update), both Windows 10 Enterprise E3 and Windows 10 Enterprise E5 are available as online services via subscription.

    Clearly this is not consumer.
