Windows 10: Have to double press quotation mark to get it printed

It is really annoying that I have to press quotation mark twice or press another key to get it printed on the screen. Please, advise how to change this annoying behaviour.

Unable to type quotation mark (“) properly

I understand that when you need to press the (“)
key twice or press it once followed by a character to get the quotation mark (“) printed on the screen.



I would like to inform you that if you are using a US – International keyboard, you will need to press the (“) key twice or press it once followed by a character to get the quotation mark (“) printed on the screen.
As this is by design for the US - International keyboard.



Similarly, if you are using a United Kingdom keyboard for English (Australia), you will see a change in the
@ and “ keys. As they are swapped to accommodate the Australian keyboard.



As an alternative, you might want to try using the United States keyboard, which should allow you to type the characters properly. To install the United States keyboard, refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows logo key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
2. Click on Time & Language and click on
   Language on the left pane.
   
3. Now, click on English (Australia) language pack and select
   Options.
   
4. Click on Add a keyboard and select
   United States (US).

Quotation Marks Doubled

Suddenly, when in the middle of a document, my Word for Windows 10 started making two quotation marks, or two apostrophes, when I hit the key.

What did I do?

 

crazy quotation marks

when I type quotation marks the first one is inverted and at the bottom of the line, the second, turned around. eg.: „of new possibilities“

This is happening in only one document. and the only soultion is to cut and past every correct quotation mark.

I have read all the similar questions and no one has suggested a correction that works. There are lots of language related suggestions but all solutions thus far have failed. Please give explicit instructions.
