having to press enter to search in file explorer after reinstalling windows 6yGhKHnJtDIDdx3L79RWp7HHGrosEbUUwnzd3j9ys18.jpg

So i recently reinstalled windows using windows 10 media creation tool on a USB stick.
After i did so, the search bar in the file explorer now requires me to press enter to start searching for the files i am looking for. In the past, it used to immediately make a search the moment i started typing. i tried to look up the web for solutions but cant find anything related.

Does anyone know can i change my file explorer to work like in the past where results pop up as soon as i type something in?

see the red arrow? it wasn't there before

this is really annoying me because i often use this search bar to look for files and having to press an extra key everytime just creates unnecessary effort and wastage of time.

    Thanks!

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

  3. File Explorer Search Not Working

I am trying to search in File Explorer (Windows Explorer, My Computer) and it will not find anything. I can copy text from a name in the list and paste it in the search box and it still finds nothing. I have looked at the suggestions that have been posted and nothing I find that is relative to this works. Anyone have any suggestions? I am running Win 10 Pro on an I3 coustom desktop computer.

Search for Missing files in File Explorer

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are looking for a file named “Class” with the length of the file. However, currently File Explorer doesn’t have the option to search the files using the length.

You can follow the steps mentioned below to search for a file in File Explorer using the Size, Kind of file and other options.

    1. Press and hold Windows key + E to open
      File Explorer.
    2. Click on This PC on the left pane.
    3. Press F3 key to open Search options.
    4. You can select the Size,
      Kind
of file and other options and then, search for the file.

    Hope it helps.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.
