HDD Caddy Not Detected in Windows 10 Dual Boot

Hi Guys I got a HP 15 here that I have dual boot with Windows 10 and Windows 7. I recently bought an HDD Caddy that goes into the DVD drive, I have a SSD thats 128GB on it.

On windows 10, the hdd / caddy is not detected at all.
Another issue being if keep it connected turning the laptop on, it always goes into Windows 7 (no option to chose os/boot menu.

    *Sad

  2. Windows wont boot whitout second drive

My laptop is an asus s56cb and recently i bought an hdd caddy an an ssd, then i moved my hdd to the caddy and then i added the ssd to the main sata port. And i did a fresh install of windows 10 to the ssd , and i did a format to the hdd. Since then my laptop
boots on bios and though there is nothing in the boot order , if i select save and exit it loads windows. The problem is when i try to boot whithout the second hdd in the caddy , then my computer wont boot at all though the other hdd is empty .

    What can i do?

  3. Reserve Windows 10 for new SSD on same machine

Hi, I would buy an SSD which will either replace my HDD or be added to my laptop (in a caddy that would replace the CD reader).

Could I install my free Windows 10 version on the new SSD and keep my Windows 8.1 as dual boot? Suggestions on how to do this?

By the way, I already reserved my Windows 10 version on my HDD's Windows 8.1.

HDD Caddy Not Detected in Windows 10 Dual Boot

Alright guys, I think I found an solution!

So there is a small dip switch (depending on your caddy it may be on the rear near the connectors ports or on the side, mine was on a side, a small dip/slide switch that I could reach with a toothpick or razor blade. upon turning it the other way it worked just fine. I did some googling and then read this - Second HDD Caddy with a flip switch | NotebookReview

"it's a switch that, when slid all the way toward the SATA interface, will prevent the diagnostic pin from making a connection with the ground pins. here's an illustration. depending on the model of your machine, you may need to utilize the switch if you're having sleep/standby/shutdown issues after caddying your drive. (you can read about those kinds of issues here and here.)"

    Hope that helps someone. *Smile

Okay, I spoke too soon, it worked fine, now it wont work again. Lol..

edit: what seems to do the trick seems to be

with the dip switch on(flicked probably didnt make a difference

    1. connecting the caddy without the sdd/hdd, which allows dual boot option.

    2. bootinginto win 10 and shutting down.

    3. then taking the caddy out and connecting the hdd/ssd in, and starting again.

    4. now windows dual boot appears and win 10 loads.

but on next shut down it wont work no more.

i think definitely a driver issue.. because windows 7 works fine.. *Think

Major Update: Okay after much digging, I think I found the issue (fingers crossed)

the drive was marked as "active" and I forgot to mention it was previously used as a C drive which I had just formatted, so I forgot to delete/clean the whole thing and the system partitions traces/records so that was causing issues, I backed up all, went to storage options / diskpart and deleted the whole ssd, and made a simple volume, that seems to have solved it.

thanks for being patient with me! *Smile
