Windows 10: HDMI streaming, endless buffering after 2 minutes (HP Probook 450 G3)

I use an HP ProBook laptop to surf and watch streaming video on a Samsung TV. This has worked well for two years, sometimes there has been a buffering problem but if I sign off/on or restart the computer it goes away. About a year ago Google Chrome began to cause problems. The displays (both the internal and external) went black for minutes, in particular when streaming. I switched over to Firefox (latest version) and the problem went away.

Since around two weeks (after a Windows 10 upgrade?), I have had massive problems with streaming video to the TV. I can stream Netflix/YouTube etc. perfectly to the internal laptop display and when I connect the TV via HDMI, the desktop displays perfectly on the TV. The streaming works fine for 1-3 minutes but then it stops and goes into endless buffering.

Restarting the browser does not help. I have tried with Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera, exactly the same problem. This happens even if I don't use full screen but just stream to a small browser window on the desktop that is displayed on the TV. If I restart the browser, I can't access the internet at all, not even google.com. But if I unplug the HDMI cable it suddenly works fine again on the internal laptop display, including streaming video. I have switched to another HDMI cable, the problem is still there. If I stream a full lenght MP4 movie directly from the computer's SSD drive via HDMI to the TV on a media player, it works perfectly. I have used CCleaner and cleared all caches, same problem. My broadband download speed is around 7.1 Mb/sec.

Windows 10 Slows PC Dramatically
