Windows 10: Headphone jack stopped working after Update 2004

Since the latest Windows 10 update, version 2004, my headphone jack and task manager have stopped working properly. Basically, nothing I plug into the jack is detected. When I run the troubleshooter, it says that no device is plugged in. However, if I re-boot the computer while something is plugged in, it works fine. When I unplug it, the sound switches to the laptop's built-in speakers, as it should. However, plug plug anything back in, it is not recognised. I have repeated this with one pair of external speakers and two different sets of headphones. The audio drivers are up to date.


Another odd thing I noticed since the 2004 update is that Task Manager was set to pause after the laptop updated and rebooted.


There might be other strange behaviours after the 2004 update but these are the two that I noticed.


I am using a Dell XPS 13 7390.

Issues with headphones or headphone jack could have happened due to hardware issues. To isolate your concern, we suggest that you update your driver. You can follow this

If the issue still occurs, we suggest that you contact your manufacturer to check and troubleshoot your hardware issue with headphone jack.

Headphone jack won't work

I did Step 1 and restarted my PC after the update and the headphone jack still won't work.

I tried to do Step 2 but when I reach the Playback tab it only shows an icon for speakers. There is no icon for headphones at all to select as default.
