Windows 10: Headphone microphone not working

Hello guys! Here is some important preliminary info:

• My headphones are Turtle Beach Elite gaming headphones (except mine are the wired version)
• My computer is a Cyber Power PC desktop (I can't find what the exact model is but I know that it was from a few years ago and that it was around 1,000 dollars)

The problem is that Windows 10 cannot detect my headset's mic which means that I can't switch to it. I've tried a few tutorials but none of them work because of this. That said my headset's output does work, it's just the input that doesn't.

Any help is appreciated!

Selected Mic in


Clicked on cog (its same with Mic in and Headphone)


Wrench (also same with headphone and Mic in)


This is all i know btw when i click headphone it says mic is unplugged and when i do Mic in it says speakers are unplugged and mic is on.

Hi guys, my microphone worked well till someone changed some settings on my laptop and now idk how to change it back. I can hear in my headphones but the microphone is not detect. Only the laptop microphone works.... I have Steelseries arctis 3

To diagnose the issue, I suggest you to try the following methods and check if the issue persists.

Method 1:

Step 1: Ensure the headphone or microphone is fully and firmly inserted into the correct jack.

Step 2: Plug in the headphone or microphone and see if the same shows up in Control Panel.

Please follow the instruction:

a) Right-click on sound icon in the taskbar and select “Recording Devices”.

See if the Microphone is listed.

b) If not, right-click on the blank area and select “Show Disabled Devices”.

c) Right-click on your microphone and select “Enable ”.

Step 3: Check the volume property. Ensure that it’s not mute.

Method 2:

This may happen when you have the external speakers set to default.

Perform the task mentioned below to set headphones as default:

1. On the start screen of windows 10 press the ‘Windows key + X’
key on the keyboard and then click on Control Panel >
Sound option.

2. In the new windows click on the tab "Playback" and right click in the window and click on
Show Disabled devices.

3. Now check if headphones are listed there and right click on it and choose
Enable.

4. Highlight that headphones and click on "Set as Default".
