  1. Heads Up for Outlook 2010 Users & Dec 8th's Update (KB3114409)

This is about December 8, 2015, update for Outlook 2010 (KB3114409)

Today, I received a slew of updates via Windows Update. When I went to open Outlook 2010, it would ONLY open in Safe Mode. It would not open in regular (?) mode. After digging around for about 2 hours, and doing the usual disabling add-ins, etc., I found that this update is supposed to give Administrators the option to never have Outlook open in Safe Mode, among other fixes. See these 2 pages.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3114305. However, when I went to the registry to try to enable this, I found i didn't have the referenced key.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3114409

However, for me, it seemed to do the opposite. It only allowed me to open in safe mode. Anyway, long story short, I uninstalled this update and after a reboot I could immediately open Outlook in normal mode.

Hopefully, this helps someone who may have had this issue.

And hopefully, it won't reinstall itself and start the issue over again.

    :)

    email not working

Which Outlook version do you have? Are you unable to open it?

Microsoft releases updates to all its products: the recent one I have in this respect was installed on Dec 9th for Outlook 2010 (KB2760779). You will find your updates here: Settings > Update & Security > Advanced Options > View your Update History.

You can also Click on Check for Updates to see if anything is pending.

I just posted the same thing in the News thread. I actually created the entry to see if it would work. Nope. Update KB3114409 made Outlook 2010 behave badly for me. It would always open fullscreen and would not keep configuration like window size, reading pane, column widths and such. I ended up uninstalling it and Outlook went back to normal.

Yup, did it to me too. Uninstalled and hid the update. All's well again. This is the first update since upgrading to windows 10 that broke something. Guess I couldn't stay bulletproof forever.*Rolleyes

Had the same Outlook in safe mode only issue after the Windows and Office updates on my desktop. Performed a system restore and problem vanished. Reinstalled just the Windows updates and all is well. For grins installed the Office update and Outlook broke again (safe mode only).
Interestingly I had installed Office on my Surface Pro 4 (with minimal components since I didn't need much but the basic programs) and the issue did not occur with Outlook.

Well done mate. I've been going crazy trying to find out why my Outlook 2010 had been forced into safe mode. I uninstalled the rogue update and all seems fine now. Thanks for sharing the solution. .

Go to Control Panel from there to Windows Update. From there go to View update History then see Installed Updates. From there look for the update click to highlight then click on Uninstall at the top.

    Good Luck
