Windows 10: Heads Up for Outlook 2010 Users & Dec 8th's Update (KB3114409)

Interesting. I received updates for Office 2007 and I'm not having issues.

 

The issue has been accepted by MS and applies only to Outlook 2010. The download for KB3114409 has been removed. I've been able to log a support call with Microsoft and confirmed this is a known issue.

For anyone that needs to uninstall the update silently or in a script for larger deployments use the following command:

msiexec /I {90140000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} MSIPATCHREMOVE={14CDCBF7-3CCC-42E2-A5BB-2D4926E16FAA} /qn

Note: {90140000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE} is for Office 2010 Professional Plus. This maybe different for other versions (eg Standard) so check your registry (HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall).

 

This is another disappointing example of poor software engineering & testing from MS.

 

On a 64Bit machine with 32Bit Outlook you have to create following registry key:
HKLM\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security\ DWORD: DisableSafeMode = 1

 

The update is also forgetting read receipt preferences - come on Microsoft sort it out!*Sad

 

Well my outlook for 2013 is running fine with the updates installed, so I guess its only for older versions??

 

Thanks for that. Worked like a charm in fixing the Outlook Today problem. I had to make a few changes in the "Customize Outlook Today" window, but otherwise back to normal.

 

I uninstalled Update KB3114409 and Outlook 2010 no longer starts in Safe Mode. I then tried to hide the update using the Troubleshooter in this guide https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8...dows-10-a.html This didn't find Update KB3114409 and it also wasn't found when I ran Windows Update again. I'm now wondering if Microsoft have withdrawn Update KB3114409 until they fix it?

Identical symptoms here in SC. Will MS fix this? My skill set below removal of the update

 

Left click at the Start button > left side, click Settings > select Update & Security > right side, click Advanced options > click View your update history > at the top, click Uninstall Updates > scroll down to the heading Microsoft Windows > find update KB3114409 > right click at it > click Uninstall.

 

Thank-you. Uninstall worked great. And yes, hopefully the new update is modified to either correct the condition or add the key to be able to turn safe on and off.

 

As Steve C has posted on Reply #22, the update has been pulled by Microsoft. It won't happen again...... I hope.
