Windows 10: headset mic wont work on laptop

Kind of vague title I know. I have a Dell 1500 running windows 10. I have a really nice headset that I got a little while ago for my Xbox. My computer for some reason will not take the microphone input form it even though there is a little headset with a mic next to the singular jack. I've tried finagling windows settings to no avail. But the thing that's annoying about it is that it still plays audio through the headset. I'm pretty sure all my drivers are up to date since i got the laptop in May of this year, and the mic works fine for other things so I'm sure its a problem with the computer or Windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Gaming Headset mic wont work

I have a Turtle Beach pc compatible gaming headset plugged into my laptop, and I can hear sound perfectly fine, but my mic wont work at all.

 

Laptop not splitting headset mic & audio?

Hi
Simple version. When i plug in my headset to my laptop windows10 is not splitting it into one output and one input.

I fixed this years back by setting the popup box 'whats plugged in' from headphone to headset. Then it split the audio and mic. However i had to reinstall windows and now when i select headset it just mutes my laptop mic and audio manager just shows the one mic, but two audio outputs.

It was working before the reset and i have tested the headset on another computer and it is working find.
So far i tried device manage audio driver install, for both Realtek driver and High Definition driver but either resolve the issue.

Any suggestions why windows would pick up one and not the other?

I currently have it set to headphone plugged in so that i can use my laptop mic, but ive been told i sound really bad *Sad

Laptop unable to work with external mic

I tried to connect my external headset (headset without mic)
and a external mic to my laptop via a splitter headset work just fine but mic wont work. But the mic will work if it is connected directly to the audio jack
(aslo i tried the splitter with my gaming headset with mic and it works just fine) (tried update and reinstall driver) (just to add on i also bought another splitter but also wont work)
