Windows 10: Help configuring Xbox 360 Controller on Win10

So, I'm trying to play games using a wired Xbox 360 controller on a windows 10 pc.


the controller is recognized fine. That's not the problem. The problem is the inputs are all messed up and the configuration properties are all out of whack:

- it shows one analog stick as the X/Y axes... that corresponds fine to the Left analog stick on the controller

- "Point of View Hat" corresponds to the D-pad, not the right analog stick

- D-pad is completely unconfigurable

- Right stick movements register as "X/Y Rotation"

- Triggers control "Z Axis +/-"

- Click left stick registers, clicking on the right stick does not



Ive seen people say select Xinput as the controller's "preferred device" but I dont have that option. all i have "Xbox 360 For Windows"


Any help setting this up to use like a normal controller would be appreciated
