  2. Moved document folder location and now name is incorrect

    Hi,

I moved the location of my 'Documents' folder from the C drive to the root of my D drive in error. What I meant to do was move it to D:\Documents.

I have managed to restore the original location back to the C drive, and clicking on Documents under the user heading in file explorer takes me to the folder's location on the C drive. However, when I look under the This PC heading in explorer, the documents folder name is showing as D:\

If I right click the Documents folder under the user heading and click pin to quick access, it also shows the name as D:\

Any ideas on how to prevent this? I realise it is only cosmetic, but it does make things confusing, as the folder is no longer stored on the D drive at all!

    Thanks,

    Matt

  3. Moved document folder location and now name is incorrect

If you cancelled while moving files are in progress, that's normal, you have you files in to partitions. What is your OS version, for older versions read this article, I hope this will help you.

FORGOT TO NAME DOCUMENTS FOLDER WHEN MOVED TO D DRIVE

Hi Emma. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

So you moved the Location of the User Documents folder to D without first creating a new folder for it, and now your D drive is the Documents folder?

Don't worry as I'll help you fix it:

First restore the default location, also from the Documents Properties box. But DO NOT have it copy the files back.

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/23504-resto...

Then right click an empty area in D drive, choose new Folder, name it Documents. drag all your documents in the D folder into that new Documents folder. You can do this by choosing checkboxes you enable in File Explorer > View > Options > Change Folder and
Search Options > View > Use Checkboxes > Save > Apply. Check all your Documents and then drag or copy/paste the group to the new Documents folder.

Now go back to the User Documents folder Properties box to move Location to the new Documents folder:

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
