Windows 10: [HELP] How to rename a bunch of files so a string of text comes before the original name at...

Hi Reddit,



I need some help. I need to put a string of text (mp_m_freemode_01^) before a bunch of files, but it takes soo long. Is there a way to do it faster? (The rest of the file names should not change, only the bit before the file name.



Example:

I have a file named jbib_003_u.ydd. I have to put mp_m_freemode_01^ in front of it, so it makes mp_m_freemode_01^jbib_003_u.ydd

Deleting Lines in a Text File Given Strings From Another File Using Set-String (Powershell)

Basically what's happening is that I have two files, one with a list of allowed users and another list of users that are actually on the desktop. What I'm trying to do is use a for loop to grab each name in the AllowedUsers.txt file, and use Select-String
to find any names that match and delete them from the original Users.txt (with the list of users actually on the desktop). The end goal is to have a list of users that aren't allowed on the desktop left in the Users.txt file, where I can then for loop through
once again and simply delete those users through command line.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to get this to work as I don't fully grasp how Select-String or for loops work, but any help writing the script would be greatly appreciated.

 

How to Batch Rename files ?

I have a lot of files I want to give names to. I already found a way to get names into a text I need. So all these names i have in text, I want to give to other files.

How do i do this in a batch process ?

Currently trying to learn FastStone Image viewer. Seems to be updated version of Resizer by the same company?
That has been useful for other batch processes for images . But I've yet to figure the batch naming options .

A different software I'm considering for this task is called Advanced Renamer .

Maybe I've become too slow through the years because :
I've been looking for the right tutorial that I can clearly understand and found none .
They seem to be out of my grasp .


Note : I currently use a bat file, that takes the names of other files I have in a folder and puts them into a text file.

( I'd prefer a one click Bat process ideally for this specific task ) .

So I'd be happy with a bat file that can also take those names in my text list
and apply them to files I want to rename in any given folder with those . If anyone knew how to do that.

It don't matter the order applied - as long as each file in the folder receives one name from the list.
The names I pulled are from images in a folder. The names are to be applied to a equal number of files ,
which is a different extension. so no worry about them having the same name. So just the names .

Compare a text file containing file names with files in a folder

Hi,
I have a text files containing a list of file names and I wish to compare that to a folder with files in it.
The folder contains a rather large number of files and I want to see if files in that folder exist in the file with the list of file names.

Hope I have explained my problem clearly.
