Windows 10: Help! Laptop stuck on 'Fixing (C:) Stage 2 ...'

It says 'Fixing (C Stage 2: 7% (69166 of 935246); Total: 26%; ETA: 0:35:59' and it hasn't changed in... a while. The ETA is slowly going up tho. I am absolutely terrified n petrified n scared to death that this is IT for it and that all my files will be lost forever. It has been running pretty slowly recently and also getting very hot so I have kind of been meaning to buy a hard drive to back everything up but alas. I never got round to it.

Any advice (or reassurance) would be appreciated lol especially in simple terms because I am a poor and useless technologically inept girl. Thanx in advance!

@smoka Great you fixed it and would be interesting to know how you did it. Care to list the basic steps you took to do it so that it can help others stuck in the same situation?
