Windows 10: Help!!! My win 10 laptop can't boot!

At this screen you go into Troubleshoot.
Then you have two options; Reset this PC or Advanced options.
I would go for "Advancer Options -> Startup Repair" first.
If this didn't help, you probably should choose "Go back to the previous build." This will restore your laptop to the windows version you had on it before the upgrade.

This way, you should be able to get access to all you files again. Make a backup of them all, and then use CCleaner to make sure your system doesn't have too much clutter on the hard disk that could hamper your upgrade to Windows 10 again.

 

It doesn't allow me to Reset (Keep the data or Wipe the Data). It also doesn't allow me to go back to the previous build as it says that no previous build exists.

I am trying to clean install using the USB, but it seems stuck at Copying Windows files (0%)

 

There is something I hadn't thought about, but did you already check if the data on the hard disk hasn't been corrupted?

Just boot with your USB stick with the installation ISO on it, and when you get at the first menu, use <shift>-F10, this will open a command prompt for you.

Use: chkdsk /b /f /v /scan <drive> (drive, of course, C: or any other letter your hard disk is using.)


PS: I just noticed someone else mentioning this also in your other topic, but he didn't tell you how you could easily check it with your USB Windows 10 installation stick. *Wink

The other thing he said is true. You had it running for a week, so Win10 was activated. You can do a clean install by booting with the USB stick, choosing Custom Install, and whenever asked for a product key. Just skip it! Because you did an upgrade, your hardware ID is known by the Microsoft server, so you don't need to input any keys. After all is installed, and you login with your Microsoft account, Win10 will be automatically activated.

I did 2 clean installs here, on two of my laptops, to make sure I start with a fresh installation. Upgrades can get corrupted because of stuff that's in the registry from the previous version of Windows and installed and uninstalled software on it. For some reason, the current OS can deal with leftovers of uninstalled programs, but the upgraded OS can stumble and crash by those lines in the registry.

I did not do any thing to it (because none worked) but my laptop just booted after I restarted it for a couple hundred times! What should I do now?

 

I would suggest back-up everything and maybe do a clean install. From what I was told, that sound to me might sort out most of the issues. I am in no way an expert, so this is just me think out loud.

I am still trying to do a live boot of Ubuntu to try and recover some info from the computer. Problem is just that I work during the day, so don't have to much time to try and recover the PC. I will report back with whatever I am able to do.
