Windows 10: HELP! windows 10 version 10240 - cannot update, eternal loading but never completes

computer newbie but never had such a mess with older windows versions.


have asus laptop x555LAB


I believe it came with windows 8? and upgraded to window 10. I use this laptop infrequently, 3-5 x year.


I've attempted to upgrade multiple times for the last 2 years and gave up because it never completes the upgrade!


Its been "upgrading" for the last 16 hours and is hanging on the last 3 percent for over 8 hours!!!!


please help!

use the key you need for the build and run those lines in cmd to activate

I suggest running those commands as administrator. Just in case.

Build 10240 - Any expiry on ACTIVATED versions??

I was going to do that for my benefit because of the way I have my partitions setup and to be legal with the EULA that isn't a step by step instruction. Right now I am waiting to see if build 10240 is actually the release build and yes I know at lot of people don't believe 10240 is the release version. I still may need to do that if build 10240 is not the release version.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
