    Help! Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56)


    My computer was working fine with internet access, while updating the network drivers I got disconnected from my home wifi but the update failed in the end. I know people talked about this and found that they had third party VPN running but I don't have any VPN running. I tried using window's troubleshoot but it couldn't identify the problem, uninstall and restart, cmd lines, network reset, nothing worked. Here are the pics.

    Hi,

    Conflicts with a third-party VPN software is one of the possible reasons why you are having a "Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device (Code 56)" on each of the network adapter in the Device Manager. May we know if you have a third-party
    VPN software installed? If yes, kindly try to uninstall the software, and restart the computer, and check if you will still encounter the same issue.

    What does Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56) mean?

    When my Gateway SX 2851 updates from Win 10 version 1703 build 15063.726 to current Version 1709 build 16299.98 I lose all network connections.

    At the bottom of windows desktop in the tray, my network icon has a red x with a popup dialog that says "Not connected - No connections are available". When I look in device
    manager all the network adapters have a yellow caution symbol. When I click on each adapter I get a dialog that says "Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56)" It sounds to
    me like the update is not working correctly.

    My computer has done the update twice and I have had to roll it back twice. There appears to be no fix for this yet.

    Hi James,

    One possible reason of the error Windows is still setting up the class configuration for this device. (Code 56) is a conflict with third-party VPN software. If you have any VPN software installed, please uninstall it and then restart you computer. Your network
    connections should be restored.

    I found a link that has addressed a similar issue. Several community members have tried uninstalling their VPN software and it did restore their network connections. Please see
    SOHIC's response on this thread.
    You don't need to worry though as you can reinstall your VPN software once your network connection is restored.
