  1. HELP- Windows10 Won't Boot After Registry Editing

A day ago, when I started my laptop, one of my Seagate External Backup Plus drives could not be recognized by the ToolKit seagate no matter how many reboots etc.

I ran a search and located an article for the seagate drive at easeus.com.

Fix Seagate External Hard Drive Not Detected\Recognized Error without Losing Data

I worked from the top solutions down to the last option and then followed the document by beginning by backing up the registry reg.reg to the desktop, I know exactly what I deleted as is defined in the how-to. At the bottom of the how-to was a paragraph that stated ...

"if" you want to restore your registry it defined how to do that, it was not insistent that I actually do the registry restore and likewise I figured "why would I want to restore" the registry that I just edited.

    Registry Edits

    In:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

In the right pane, I deleted 'upperfilters' and 'lowerfilters'

at this point I was to try and access the drive again but was not able to so I attempted rebooting.

    That is it!

    BIG MISTAKE

Upon restart, the OS would not boot

In another external drive I have the original system restore TECH-1 and it appears to have been automatically running these weekly, however when I connect the USB drive and then start the laptop and go to

-> Preparing Automatic Repair -> Advanced Options -> Troubleshoot -> Advanced Options -> See more recovery options -> System Image Recovery

I see activity at the external drive but no GUI manifests.

In this I think I answered my own question, the drive doesn't have an image?!?!

I now have no alternative that I can find to restore my system other than to use command to utilize

    'reg import'.

However before I do this I would like to be certain that this is a best alternative and that there is nothing else I should try, additionally I would like to validate that i would be running the proper command.

    reg import

    reg import reg.reg

The registry backupreg.reg is in c:\windows\system32

Would this be the correct command?

Aside from needing to restart the laptop, would there be any other preparatory things I should do in advance of doing the restart or the import?

Thank you very much for your help.

    Best regards

    :)

    Help, Vista Won't Boot?

do you have an hdd that doesn't have important files or is in the raid?

basically what i would do(im a complete n00b at grub and stuff so this probably gonna be a much more painful solution then what someone experienced would suggest) is take ubuntu(grab solaris dvd 3.0 tommorow or download ubuntu from ubuntu.com and burn it) and load ubuntu (by selecting it in solaris dvd 3.0 or selecting the first start option in the ubuntu cd) and go to install(right on the desktop) and install it on another hdd or partition, and it'll replace the bootloader on the boot drive and once ubuntu is done installing, select restart (or you have the option to wait and reboot manually if you want to finish up looking at historyless porn) , and when you reboot, it'll have like 4 linux options (ubuntu, ubuntu safe mode, memtest, and somthing else) and then it should list windows vista as one of the boot choices, and then it'll load vista..

also you can edit the grub file to remove the ubuntu options that you'll never use, change the default os in the list to vista and change the waiting time. edit...
