Next time you try it, make an image of your present system. If you decide to go back, it is so much easier.

This is absolutely NOT true. I have machines where I run a local account and can access the Windows Store without issue, however, I will need to enter my MS Account info to install any apps from there. The machine itself maintains a local login.

There are other things that don't work unless you login with a MS Account, the most obvious is Cortana. If you attempt to access Cortana while logged in with a local account, Win 10 will prompt you to convert the machine to a MS Account login. At one time, OneDrive required you to login to the machine with a MS Account as well, not sure if that's still true. Syncing between machines also requires you to login with a MS Account.

  3. The Store will launch but like you say, you still need a Microsoft ID to install and use Apps. I could have worded it better. its still pretty close to what happens.

    For you.

For me the email notifications don't work right - totally inconsistent. No fixes work for long. That has always been the case. Things I set mysteriously unset themselves. My laptop freezes when I wake it from sleep. The usual fixes improve it but still it persists. Little circles appear on the notification icon and have to be removed by turning on and off quiet hours. All of these things can be worked around - turn off email notifications and use something else, don't use sleep and just turn off display and not be such a perfectionist about settings but then you have the system itself which gives you little control over updates or over direction of the OS since it will be a service that develops. I also was never a fan of how it looks. But I could have dealt with it if the bugs where not there.
My guess is its an interaction between my HP laptop and win 10, though I've read of many with various brands that have similar issues.
Windows 8.1 otoh, works perfectly on my laptop.

I will look into taking an image so I don't have to do all that work and sounds like a good way to make backups in general - thank you.

Some of your problems may be driver related. You may need to upgrade or downgrade a driver or more to solve some of your problems. On my Insider build Windows update updated my wireless network card and it caused me a big headache. I had to go to HP and download and install a older driver to fix my network card.

I already have Windows 10 installed on my old laptop of course, but i am buying a new Hp Laptop with Windows 10....
After i do the initial set up and register it, i thought it might be a good idea to then do an clean install so that all the manufacturer's bloatware would be removed.... I was wondering:

    1) Can i just download and create an iso using the Windows Media Creation Tool and use that to do a Clean Install on the new computer? (and is that the best way to do it?)

    2) If so, when doing the install, would i need to do a "Custom" install and delete the previous partitions, or would it automatically overwrite using the new install and create a new CLEAN windows 10 install?

    3) Would it be ok to burn the iso while still on my old laptop? I figured it would save some time after i get the new one set-up...
I will burn restore discs of the original system of the new laptop just in case they are ever needed, before doing the clean install, of course....

4)Would there be a way (on the new Windows 10 laptop) that i could actually do the clean install of the system without the bloatware, from the system itself, without having to even bother using the media creation tool?

    5) Lastly, is the product key (activation) on new windows 10 computers imbedded in the bios and if so will will that mean the install will not ask me for an activation key?

    Thanks *Smile

Yes, you can, and probably that would be the easiest.
I would do the custom install and delete all partitions, so that you are installing to an unallocated drive.
    Sure, it would be okay.
Nope. The recovery partition on OEM-installed systems includes all their bloatware.
As long as you are installing the same flavor (Home/Pro), it will activate automatically. Once a system has had W10 installed and activated on it, you can reinstall as often as you need/want. If it asks for a key during installation, just select "I don't have a key", and continue on.

Thanks Guys...that covers all my questions and certainly clears it up for me...really appreciate it...*Smile

By the way, is there any advantage to just run with the manufacturer's install as opposed to clean installing a pure windows system?
Might i be better off just running with it and maybe going to add/remove programs and if i see a few obviously unnecessary items, just deleting those?...

  10. Uninstalling all the junk, usually leaves stuff behind. It looks like its all gone but files and reg entries can be left behind. Another side effect is, if you log in for the first time with Microsoft ID, all those factory installed Apps immediately get added to your "My Apps" section of your store account. Even if you never launch them and immediately uninstall them. *Devil Once that happens they are there forever. You can't delete them from your Store account.

EDIT: I ditched the OEM factory install on my laptop ages ago and haven't looked back.

  11. The latest rumor is after the 29th, if you haven't done the free upgrade, you will automatically be rolled back to Windows 3.1 and given a complementary, totally free for the life of the device, edition of Microsoft BOB. *Tongue

  15. Some on the Windows 7 and 8 forums, would likely say, it could be worse, lol. On the plus side, all the nags to upgrade, and the GWX App will hopefully be history.
