Windows 10: Hi I am getting error 0x80070490 when trying to upgrade to windows 11 Pro through a license...

I have now had two different activation codes to upgrade to windows 11pro which i had purchased - i even tried via apps store and still got same message coming up. I have done all updates to windows 11 prior to do this.

Microsoft has been no help.

• Errors out after 10% with windows error message.
  
• SFC /Scannow found no issues.
  
• Flushed Prefetch
  
• Ran Cleanmgr and flushed old updates and system files as well as temp files.
  
• Ran Windows Update Troubleshooter.
  
• Ran Dism
  

 

Windows 11 Home to Pro upgrade failed with 0x80070490

Hi,

I purchased a brand new Acer laptop with Windows 11 Home edition preinstalled on it. After activating the Windows and installing all the available updates, I purchased a Windows 11 Pro licence through Microsoft Store, but the upgrade failed with Error Code 0x80070490.

I searched the net and found a very similar question at Windows 11 Home to Pro upgrade failed with 0x80070490 and then - Microsoft Community I went through the suggested solutions, but it did not work for me.

There was no Product Key for the Windows 11 Home edition that came with my laptop and it says my Windows has been activated with a digital licence linked to my account. There is no way to change the Product Key on that activation page, except for the option to upgrade Windows, and change the product key. I tried the generic Product Key that was given in the above link, and again I got an error message with the same error code: 0x80070490.

Since I received no product key when I purchased the Windows 11 Pro licence, I am not able to enter the correct product key to see if that's the cause of this message.

Can anybody help me, please?

Trying to upgrade to Windows Pro 11 (from Home 11) error code 0x80070490

Bought a new computer running Windows Home 10. Updgraded to Windows Home 11, and purchased upgrade to Windows Pro 11. But it's telling me "upgrade failed. Error Code 0x80070490.

I've seen others have used a temporary key to get it to upgrade, but that must be a specific key as the one they used didn't work for me.

Any help would be appreciated.
