How can I clean these .MUM and .CAT files from failed updates?

DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup is used only clean up the component WinSXS folder and is advisable after every cummulative updates, It will clean up quite a bit of space.
If you list all .mum & .cat files in deltail view, you'd see the date and also the KB in question. I have mine listed and most of them dated back in sept. 2017
These files are owned by Trusted Installer and cannot be deleted even if you are the Administrator.
Try:

1. Take ownership of these files and delete them. If failed, go to step 2
2. Download: PowerRun v1.3 (Run with highest privileges)
   then run. Click on the Command icon to run as Trusted Installer, cd to the folder then delete them.
3. An easy way is to boot up Linux then delete them.

If those KB's failed to update, you can safely delete them. Since I have a backup image, I booted into Linux and delete them all. Once back to Windows, Manually download the latest KB4093105 that update Windows to 16299.402 by passing all the updates in between.

FYI, Even in this folder, there are thousands of .mum, .cat files but they don't occupy much space. After delete all the .mum and .cat files in mine, Windows re-created 1,668 files just to install KB4093105 and occupy 22MB total.

 

Im not sure if there's ransomware on my mums laptop.

Thank you for that image, rest assured that is not malware, it is that Windows is having difficulty logging your Mom into the PC, it seems the wrong PIN code was entered too many times.

If you Enter A1B2C3 into the PIN box, do you get the opportunity to create a new PIN?

If you click the 'Sign-In Options' link can your Mum enter her password there instead of a PIN?

Do you know if you mum uses a Microsoft Account or a Local Account to log into Windows?

 

Mums N900 3G & Wireless Problem

Hello again. I ended up buying a N900 for my Mum with firmware 3.2010.02-8.203.1. When updating to the latest firmware 20.2010.36-2.203.1- wireless will not work on this device & the 3G will not disconnect. My mum is orange contract sim.



The wireless Icon flashes a few times then gives up if I click on the wireless icon while it's flashing & trying to connect a network error occurs. There is something different about the firmware on mums n900 to that of the firm on my n900. I'm on 02 payg
sim.



We swapped sims round & still experience the same problem. Mums N900 will not disconnect from the 3g with my 02 payg sim connection in her phone or her own orange sim card, neither will it connect to the wifi. Mine works with both sims & disconnects from
the 3g & works with wifi, connects to wifi if it is there.





This phone we bought from the seller on 27 Mar, 201117:23:24 BST on ebay.



I don't know if tis is a firmware issue/bug or firmware difference? or whether the wifi module is faulty. If so how can we get it repaired. I'm looking for some help, advice or suggestions on what to do?
