  1. Hibernate Enabled but not working in Win10 Windows to Go

I have Windows 10 Home installed and activated (as Windows to Go) on an external Samsung T1 SSD. I enabled hibernation per the instructions here: Hibernate - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums. However, every time I attempt to hibernate, the screen goes black but the PC never powers off and Windows never successfully hibernates. Any ideas what the problem could be? (Hibernation works perfectly on the Windows 7 installation on the internal SSD.)

System: Dell Latitude E6530, Core i5-3210M, 4GB RAM

    Thanks!

    :)

On Windows 10, I enabled hibernate, but it goes to the login screen instead of hibernating.

On Windows 10, I enabled hibernate, but it goes to the login screen instead of hibernating. From the login screen I can then hibernate, and it works from there.

I tried disabling hybrid sleep, which did not change anything.

The only recent change to my system has been that I upgraded to Windows 10, which disabled hibernation, so then I had to re-enable hibernation, which did not work from the get-go.

Win 10 leaving dirty NTFS partitions

On multiple-boot installations you must have 'hibernate' disabled in Windows 10.

    You get that by first starting the command interface in administrator mode;

there you type powercfg /hibernate off and press the Enter key.

(With hibernate enabled, Windows 10 may leave the file system behind in a messy state.)

Sadly, one of the next Win10-Updates may well enable hibernate, so you have

    to turn it off again.

Hibernate Enabled but not working in Win10 Windows to Go

Have you enabled it? It is disabled by default.

  5. lx07,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have enabled hibernation. But when I go to the start menu and select Hibernate, the screen goes black like it is starting the hibernation process, but then nothing happens.

If you are using standard Windows to Go (which is enterprise version of Windows) you have to enable hibernation in group policy (in addition to the tutorial you linked to) as it is disabled by default.

Booting other versions of Windows from external drives isn't supported (you can do it of course) but with 10 Home you don't have the ability to change group policy to test to see if it would work. It is quite possible you just can't do it....

    Hi,

When using hibernation you also need to re-use the same usb port again for it to resume correctly.
If you're using a Home Edition you can install gpedit.msc (group policy editor) separately by downloading and installing this file:

add_gpedit_msc_by_jwils876-d3kh6vm.zip , which can be downloaded from this site amongst others:

I've checked if it works on an acquaintance's laptop with W10 Home x86 on it and it runs just fine. Should be OK on x64 versions just the same.

    Cheers, *Wink
