  1. Hibernation

    Hi,

I have been using a Mac for many years and have just bought a Windows laptop so I'm not very familiar with it yet. However, I seem to be having an issue with hibernation.

When I hibernate my computer, it appears to shut down instead. When I choose hibernate from the power menu or let it hibernate by itself, the power light goes off and the screen goes black. I can only get it to wake up (or start up) by using the power button. Having looked around online, it appears that I should be able to wake it with any key, so I'm thinking that maybe it's shutting down instead for some reason, though I don't know how to test this.

In the advance setting, it is set to hibernate on battery at 180 minutes. I've also turned off fast startup as I found a post on Google that suggested that this could cause this issue, but it made no difference. Also on this laptop the fast startup and normal startup seem to take the same amount of time.

So, do some computers actually only let you wake up from hibernation with the power key, or is there an issue with my hibernation?

I have a Razer Blade 15 inch - one of the new models.

    Many thanks

    Traci.

    :)

    • In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
    • When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
    • At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate on, and then press Enter.

    hibernating/password

    Hello Rich,

One possible reason why your system keeps hibernating or goes to sleep is because of the power plan settings of your computer. To assist you with your concern regarding your PC hibernating, we recommend that you reconfigure the power plan settings by following
    the steps below:

    • Type Display on Cortana's search field and press
      Enter.
    • Select Power & sleep.
    • Under the Sleep option, click the drop down menu to set the number of minutes/hours you would like your PC to sleep/hibernate. We suggest that you select
Never if you do not want you system to hibernate.
    • Close all windows for the changes to take effect.

Let us know if you will need further assistance.
