Windows 10: Hidden Files Can't be changed to "View Hidden Files"

Hello I have Windows 10 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.523)

I noticed that my hidden files could not be viewed, and after exhausting multiple options I just created a new User Profile. Now this new User profile has the issue, and I do not want to keep on creating new profiles.


I have Norton Internet Security. -Yes it has done a full system scan and it has found nothing.


I know it is not helpful but I have seen online where I use command prompt to run various "code" (for a lack of better words) to test the system, and there were no "integrity issues" and no errors that popped up.


I am not sure what to do and all the other threads I have seen do not seem to help. I also saw another thread where it suggested going into the registry to see if the value was set to "0" or "1". I can't remember which is which, but I do recall the value was set properly according to the thread, so now don't know what to do.

Can't See files, not hidden

That was the first thing I tried Dippy... but it didn't work.. meaning I've enabled viewing of and turned them from hidden to normal. *see the pictures*

I apologize when I say cannot be viewed, what I should have stated was, the computer is showing hidden files regardless of whether I have "view hidden files" checked.

I can set a folder to "hidden" but it won't matter b/c the computer will still show me the file regardless of whether "view hidden files" is checked or not.

Further when I got to check the box for viewing hidden files, that is when the screen flashes and nothing happens.

For example I go in my explorer folder and I can change the "Pictures" folder to hidden, and I click "Apply" however, the folder is still there on my screen showing even though I don't have view "Hidden Files" checked. It does not even appear slightly lighter
in color on the screen like hidden files generally look when you have "view hidden files" checked.

When I go under "Properties" for the "Pictures" folder it shows that it is suppose to be "hidden" but does not seem to be taking effect.

Folder options->show hidden files/folders.

Checking the hidden box is a property, not a viewing preference.
