Windows 10: Hidden Program Files(x86) on Windows 10 Pro 64bit. Why?

Hi all!

I installed a windows 10 pro x64 (1703) "clean install", and the next day i saw the Program Files(x86) is gone, hidden. Why? UAC is disabled, no microsoft account, i am offline account, i am logged in administrator.
I installed few app,( Advanced System Care 10, Avast, Auslogics registry cleaner, etc.) hope it help. *Confused Why does Windows 10 X64 hiding in the Program Files (x86) folder? *Mad

In Windows 10 Pro, is the hidden ProgramData folder in C drive the remnant of 8.1 Pro?

I have upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro 3 months back. I see a hidden folder 'ProgramData' of 1 GB in drive C. Is it a remnant of the previous OS 8.1 Pro, or is it part of Windows 10? I also have Program Files and Program Files (x86). Can
I delete the ProgramData?

If you are given this option, of installing in either C::\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86) you are running the 64bit version of Windows 10.

If you use Internet Explorer or Chrome:

If your browser is 32bit you should download the 32bit version of Java (installs to C:\Program Files (x86)}

If your browser is 64bit you should download the 64bit version of Java (installs to C:\Program Files}

 

"C:\Program Files (x86)" is not hidden by default - something after must have changed it.
The only reason you'd not see "C:\Program Files (x86)" is if you installed 32 bit version which you did not. 32 bit Windows only has the "C:\Program Files" directory.

If you have only just done your clean install I'd recommend doing another clean install and not installing Advanced system care 10 or any registry cleaner as it will be easier (and safer) than trying to fix permissions manually.

 

I know this is gonna sound ridiculous, but are you sure it's x64?

Program Files(x86) only shows up in x64, not x86 (32 bit). In 32 bit it's Program Files - no Program Files(x86).

 

I understand, so any software installed can cause trouble? After installing Windows, there was the program Files (x86) folder, after installing the other software, and the next day I noticed that the program files (x86) folder was hidden.
Do not install the Iobit software and other registry and pc optimizer software after the next windows installation and then the program files (x86) folder will not be hidden?

Yes, it's x64.

 

That is what I'd do, yes.

You do not need this kind of software - it makes problems for no benefit.
