Windows 10: Hidden wifi

You and I both know that the OP answer is wrong. It is not that hard to decipher the SSID from a Access Point that is live and sending out Beacons. All that you need is the right tools.

 

I don't see where the OP is wrong, and saying

doesn't really explain why he's wrong. Hiding the SSID is one of several methods to help secure a basically unsecured connection. "With the right tools" you could get the SSID, crack the password, get the MAC and IP address of the router and other connected devices, etc. That is, if you have the right tools and the knowledge to use them.

 

I see you have FiOS service. FYI the FiOS Router has a hidden WiFi that is used for the Quantum TV streaming service (even if you don't have Quantum TV service). You are seeing it on Window 10 because Windows 10 can see and report hidden networks. I don't this Vista could, although the was enabled on the FiOS router last fall which may be the reason you did not see it before on Vista. When did you upgrade wto Windows 10?

 

There is nothing false about my statement. Hiding the SSID is a security feature of the router. Period. That's all I said. I know it's easy to hack but that has nothing to to with it.
