Windows 10: High CPU Temperature ?

My laptop's specs are different. What you see on my profile is my PC, because the site doesn't allow for multiple 'system specs', so I probably should've started with that.

Laptop specs:
- i7 2620M
- Nvidia NVS 4200M

Sometimes it's better to change your TF specs to match the machine you're discussing - it's a pain, but saves me a lot of work looking for answers or references *Wink

 

If it was cleaned recently, you could check whether the screws are not too tight or loose, check the graphics card thermal pad for any damage, what is the make and model of your laptop?

 

Lenovo Thinkpad T420s. Also, I want to say that I don't feel comfortable about opening it up.

I have a Lenovo budget laptop G570 with an i3 2.3ghz cpu, about 3yrs old.
Saw the same speed i5 2.3ghz cpu used on amazon for $25 so what the heck.. Changed it out.

Lenovo had gobs of an oem gray heat sink compound - overflowing all over the place.
Laptop basic web use 42c, and the highest I would see usually would be around 74c.

Since cleaning the oem heat sink compound off everything, and using artic silver on the new cpu.. temp runs almost ambient on the cores.. its hot here at about 28/29c. I don't think I've seen above about 62c high temp since replacing it. And when hot, it cools down super quick compared to what it used to.

Fan was dusty and would have been difficult to clean, easy to break I think, so I ordered a replacement fan off ebay for like $10 delivered.. runs even cooler.

 

In that case, you need to take it to a local technician for re-pasting.
