  1. High Disk Usage When Opening Any Programs

I am experiencing high disk usage when I open literally everything. I am not too knowledgeable on computer hardware so hopefully someone here can help.

I have disabled SuperFetch (I was/still am having issues with my computer randomly resetting; someone said disabling it would help, didn't, but I turned it back on and it spikes my disk)

I have run SeaTools and HDDScan. Neither showed any issues though in the screenshot below my disk was running 98-100 the entire time SeaTools ran it's test.

For another example when I opened Steam, for about 1-2 minutes, I get the 98-100 disk usage.

I have checked all Drivers on my computer and they're up to date as well.

    The Disk Drive I have is a Toshiba DT01ACA100 (1TB, 7200RPM, 32MB Cache, SATA 6.0GB/s)
    I have about 1/3rd of it occupied: Screenshot - 6410a1e07e6a2d172023bba34b3dd18e - Gyazo
(PS: I don't know how to get rid of the RamDisk and correct me if im wrong I feel like that probably limits my memory usage which isn't good figuring I only have 8GB)

If you guys need any other information let me know, Thank you!

EDIT: Currently running Macrorit, will update once done.

    :)

    High Disk Usage

Hi all, I'm struggling with finding things to fix my high disk usage. I've spent many months searching the internet and doing all the listed suggestions like disabling SuperFetch, Windows Defender, Updating drivers, ect. and still I'm stuck with a high disk usage. Here's a screen shot I took immediately following a restart and opening up to a new Firefox window.

I have noticed Service Host: Local System takes up quite a bit of disk usage and that if I close it and let it open back up all by itself then it immediately makes my disk usage drop into a much more manageable 40-60% usage range. But eventually after a while it maxes out again and I have to close it out again. It's an annoying step just to be able to use my computer.

Also, I have noticed that after working with my mom's computer today, that her disk usage when no programs are running is only like 5%. Makes me wonder why my computer can have no programs running but my disk usage never drops below 30% and sits in the 40-60% range with spikes up over 75%.

I honestly don't know enough about computers to do much more than I already have without causing major issues. BTW, just a couple weeks ago I had to do a Windows reinstall, not a complete reinstall, just the basic reinstall they allow you to do on Windows 10 where you still keep all your personal files. Ever since that a lot of times when I try to open a process like Run or Task Manager I'll get an error message that it can't open and then I do it again and it will open the second time.

Here's a screenshot of my computer information so you can see what I'm working with here.

  3. High Disk/Memory usage

It has been about more than 2 weeks since I re-installed windows 10. Issue still occurs, it's really frustrating. Your steps didn't helped. CPU usages is okay, not really high, but disk usage always goes at least to 70% when I open any program on my computer.

Windows 10 high disk usage startup

    Hi Yousef,

    Thank you for your response.

If there are multiple startup programs enabled in the system which could be causing the high disk usage. Startup programs are programs that launches automatically when you boot the computer.

These programs are either enabled manually or while installing. I would suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps.

    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open Task manager.
    • Click "Startup" tab.
    • Under startup tab, Disable any unnecessary Programs that you do not need during startup.
    • Restart the computer and check whether the issue persist or not.

Please get back to us with an update on this issue, we will be happy to assist you further.

    Thank you.
