High Ping Due to WLAN Autoconfig

I've been trying to solve this issue for a while... basically when I have wlan autoconfig enabled (netsh wlan set autoconfig enabled=yes) after a while using my computer (gaming, browsing internet etc.) my ping shoots up to 999ms consistently and does not come down. My ping wont return to normal until I turn off autoconfig, turn on, then turn back off. Once I do this process I no longer have any latency issues and my ping well remain around 50ms for hours on end.

Here are some things I've tried...

    1) Windows 10 fresh install
    2) Multiple network cards
    3) Router firmware reset

    4) Google DNS

Nothing has worked thus far, what I'm doing is essentially a band-aid fix and I have to follow this process every time I logon to my computer. I have no idea how to fix the actual problem - it has been reported on a bunch of different forums & this fixes it for them but it's obviously not the root cause.

It's also worth mentioning that this problem only effects my computer, on my phone and multiple TVs I do not get the same latency issues which leads me to believe that it's something windows related but I have no idea what since I literally did a fresh install & still having the same issue.

    :)

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

First Verify if the WLAN service is started and set to automatic, if the WLAN service is stopped, I would suggest you to start the service and put it to automatic.

Step 1: Please follow the steps to
    start the WLAN service.

    • Click on Start, type in services.msc
      and press Enter.

    • Select WLAN Autoconfig from the list, Right click properties

    • Change the startup type to Automatic.

    • Click on Start button.

    • Click on Apply, Ok.
Restart the computer and verify if it works.

Also check if all the dependencies are also running. Try the steps to check Dependencies.

    • Right-click on WLAN Autoconfig and select Properties.

    • Click on Dependencies, you will find all the dependency services under box labeled this service depends on the following system components.
Step 2: If still you are facing issues, then
    uninstall and reinstall the drivers

    • Type devmgmt.msc in Start
      Search.

    • In Network adapter you will find the device, right click on it and select the option

  3. Windows could not start the WLAN AutoConfig service on Local Computer

I need some help to get my wireless connection to work again.

    • After recent Windows 10 Update, my wireless connection no longer works. I've done some troubleshooting and I have ruled out my ISP, cable modem, and router, leaving the issue to be something within the computer (Dell laptop - Inspiron 7537).
    • The wired connection works fine
    • When I run Windows Network Diagnosis, it tells me that the Windows Wireless Service is not running (see attached pdf report)
    • When I try to manually start the WLANSVC service, i get an error message that says "Windows could not start the WLAN AutoConfig service on Local Computer Error 193:0xc1" (see attached)
    • When I try to manually start the WLANSVC service from the command prompt (as Admin) I get a slightly different message that says "The WLAN AutoConfig service is starting. The WLAN AutoConfig service could not be started. A system error has occurred. System error 193 has occurred. *** is not a valid Win32 application." (see attached)
    • I've downloaded the latest Intell PROset Wireless drivers from Dell (V18.20.0.9) for the Wireless-N 7260 wireless network adapter and have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. This didn't help.
    • I've attached some screenshots and a pdf copy of the Windows Network Diagnostics report.

I realize that the WLAN AutoConfig is not starting automatically even after setting it to automatic. We will help you.

    • Did you check if the Airplane radio button is turned On?
    • Are you facing this issue after any recent update installed?
    • Did you make any recent changes prior to the issue?
This issue might have caused due to incorrect or outdated driver for the device in Windows to function normally.

Lets try the below steps and check if the issue resolves.

      and select Properties.

    • Click on Dependencies, you will find all the dependency services under box labeled this service depends on the following system components.
Step 2: Run an inbuilt Network troubleshooter
and check if the issue persists.

    • Press Windows + X key and select
      Control Panel.

    • Type troubleshooting and select troubleshooting.

    • Click on view all on the left pane and select
      Network adapter.

    • Follow the on-screen steps and check.
Step 3: If still you are facing issues, then
uninstall and reinstall the drivers and check if the issue persists.

    • Click start.
