Windows 10: Hmm... Overall I think Win8(.1 update 1) is better than Win10.

Honestly,, can you fairly compare two OS like this. One has been updated and fully developed and the other is in development and not out to the public yet?? Let's give Win10 about a year of more development and updates and then we can compare the two properly.

 

I would but it seems pointless to do so. There will be ways to customize forthcoming.

On the whole, I think W10 is coming along quite nicely.

I agree,, it's in development.. it's not finished.. it's far from finished. Let's let it become finished and then compare it to any previous OS. *Wink

 

The vid's a little exaggerated if you ask me, I could figure out how to navigate and use W8 in a short amount of time back then,
and I was half ways computer illiterate back then.

 

I recall I tried Win8 out in a VM and it took me about 30 minutes to get comfortable. All I had to do was add on a third party start menu when they came out and I was all set with it. Then 8.1 came out and it was/is perfect.

 

I meant it as a perception issue, both windows vista and 8 received bad press and both ultimately were fine operating systems. I hear fisher price all the time on you tube and other forms and in real life.

It's only a month and a half from shipping - not a heck of a lot of time. There are a lot of issues still. I try to be hopeful, but I really don't want them releasing a turkey...

The "any colour you like as long as it's white" taskbar is horrible.

The little highlight indicator on the taskbar is pretty much useless.
It's just like the OSX Dock and Ubuntu Unity launcher indicators.

"One GUI to rule them all" is the source of a lot of the desktop user "issues" with the W8 series.
MS was repeated warned during the previews and they chose to ignore those warnings.

Now "one GUI to rule them all" is causing "issues" for mobile users trying W10TP.

There's nothing better than "cruising in the T" swigging down "New Coke". *Wink

 

I think you'll agree that all in all the picture is on the wall. It's about 85% finished, yes? Although they could, I doubt they'll make any major UI changes. It's been a boot-to-Desktop-screen-oriented OS since the first build. The desktop screen is where both Win32 and Modern Store RT apps displayed and windowed, unlike 8/8.1 where they have their individual screens, although one could have split screens/dual monitors displaying both in 8.1. That's one of the great features of 8.1 IMO.

For the most part I think they're pretty much finished fashioning the new Modern Start menu as a mixture of Start screen and All apps screens. It's just miniaturized attempting to appease both camps. Those that don't care for the Modern tiles can eliminate them. Those that do can use tablet mode for full screen.

I see they've made some additions to the All Apps column with the recent updates. They may tweak it some more in coming builds and/or updates. All in all it resembles the traditional Win32 Start menu except that it's Modern. A lot of users most likely will not notice.

Hmm. I guess some didn't notice that there was a desktop in the "8 series"???

There's a lot of Modern in 10. Can we say "Tablet mode"? Then there's Continuum. It all fits quite nicely. *Smile
