Windows 10: Home Network File Sharing

Hello,


I have recently reformatted and reinstalled Windows 10 on my desktop and laptop. I know that there is no longer a "homegroup" setting for file sharing. I have set up network discovery and I can access my files on my desktop from my laptop - which is what I want. However, all of my files on my desktop are accessible and I don't want that. I have tried going to specific folders and have clicked on "remove access" and that didn't work (because I can still load the files on my laptop). I then tried going under the folder properties and remove sharing that way...however, the files are still shared. This is driving me nuts! Any ideas? Thanks!


Also perhaps noteworthy - I have gone to my desktop \\localhost and I see that users are showing. If I right click on that and click remove access the entire users folder goes missing and doesn't share anything...and then if I go to like my "Pictures" folder as an example and click on share with everyone....all of my files become shared - not just the "Pictures" folder. I'm baffled.

Block File sharing in Wifi network, Windows 10

As per the description, I understand that you want to block file sharing on your Wi-Fi network. I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

• Right click on Start and select Control Panel.
• Change the view type to Large Icons.
• Click on Network and Sharing center.
• In the left navigation pane, click on Advanced sharing center.
• In the right pane, under Files and printer sharing, select the option:
  Turn off file and printer sharing.
• Restart the system and check for status.

Hi Brink great tutorial as usual.

I could not help but notice in step 1 you say to enable " Function Discovery Resource Publication "

In most of the posts I have read on Ten Forums they also suggest to enable " Function Discovery Provider Host "

Are you suggesting that Function Discovery Provider Host is not necessary.

I'll be adding a small page on doing this in windows vista soon, since XP is the same with a step or two less, i assume people will figure it out.
