    Homegroup Problems - Help

I had my homegroup all setup and was working just fine. Then one day all of a sudden poof it was gone. Of course I could not find where I had documented my password anywhere. Today I decided it was time to set it up again and every pc on the network said the same thing. "You have been invited to join the homegroup" Click Join. but it would search and search trying to verify my password which simply would not work.

So I went to a different PC on the network to create a new homegroup. First I had to shutdown every PC. Then I turned on one that had not been the master before and it allowed me to create a new homegroup. Once I did that, I turned on one PC at a time and joined the homegroup using the new password. I did not have to delete or change anything in the registry manually on any of the clients. As of now everything is working. I don't know why MS has to make this so difficult to figure out. One thing I have done now is document my new password so hopefully this will not happen again.

I had the same problem it involved a new protocol created by windows 10 or atleast that was first time i saw it called windows tunneling showing up device manager with a isssue. Nothing I could do would fix it till I followed the registry change on this page. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...038a648?auth=1

    Heres fix i did

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\TCPIP6\PARAMETERS. In the right pane, right click Disabled Componets and select edit. Set the DWord value to 0. Restart your computer and the teredo tunneling adapter will now start.

I was then able to access all computers from windows 10 on my network.

  3. Promlem solved for me: Was conecting two new windows 10 machines to our main office computer running windows 7 with our network printers. I was geting lots of issues not connecting with permission errors and wifi confit messages. Home group would work on one, some times printers would instal on the other. Nothing would stay connected for very long , after trying many things I spent a little more money on a new wifi usb stick (linksys) around forty bucks returned the 10 dollar bargen model. Hopefully saves someone some time I watched videos and read everything before I resorted to spending money, hopeing that wasn't the issue but more and more it seams to be first resort.

    Homegroup Problems - Help

Can anybody check the following Fix regarding HomeGroup ?? It was suggested by Windows Troubleshooting oddly enough.

Basically check the time zones, setup all your PC's with the same time zone.

Having done that, remove all HomeGroup connections on all PC's (on the original HomeGroup PC as well.) Reboot all PC's. Create new HomeGroup.

My assumption is maybe if Windows detects that you are trying to HomeGroup with a PC in a different timezone - it is not exactly a "Home" group... right? Maybe?.

By the way, I have given up on HomeGroup and gone with a straight Windows File and Printer Sharing.

fatz2fly , I've had a go with HomeGroup and I am of opinion - it sucks. I went with a straight Windows File and Print Sharing and it works. You guys mentioned a lot of issues and I think I found a fix, but to address all of your issues we should take it step by step. Guys if you are remotely interested let me know. I'll post it.

I'm interested. I've never messed with HomeGroup and was never interested. I just posted a thread about an issue I'm having. Maybe will give me some insight into my issue.

  7. I had a similar problem: I have 4 computers on my Network – Gigabyte-2010 (the main computer), Gigabyte-2016, Compaq all running the latest Windows 10 (Build ending 351) and an ancient Dell running Windows 7. The Dell can access all the files I want it to on any of the computers without a problem via Explorer/Network/The files I require. The other computers can access any of the files on any of the others apart from Gigabyte-2016 which is when I receive the error.

The Gigabyte-2016 computer can access the files on any of the other computers. I have had the problem before after Windows update but I have managed to get it working again. This time it has me defeated.

I may have found a simple solution to the problem - just change the name of the computer you cannot view the folders & files on. In my case from "GIGABYTE-2016" to "GIGABYTE-2016a". All now appears to work as would be expected. Why this happens I don't know. If any ones does please let me know!

    Homegroup Problems - Help

I have found the hard way (verified by tech support from different manufacturers) that different kinds of devices from different manufacturers may not connect to each other, even though they are running identical versions of win 10. So if you are trying to connect a Toshiba laptop to a non-Toshiba desktop, for example, it may not work.

Reply #14 by oldrock is what worked for me.
Both of my PC's Windows 10 different versions but this finally worked for me.
    Windows 10 Home 1607 Build 14393,953 Main

I agree with GaryCN that reply #14 works. Did a similar way but turned off all computers and started one at a time with others off and created a new homegroup. Once it came up with it's own password, I said okay and opened up "change password" and put in my old password which I needed for other computers at another location. Then I started all three and in file explorer highlighted the homegroup which then asked me to join. I did on each computer using my old password which would not work before but now it did. Every computer files are view able after sharing. I think I had to take ownership of the shared files on a computer to get one computer to share.

After what seemed like days of troubleshooting and research, here is what was finally my solution. I tried all of the suggestions and appreciate insights and that is why I want to make sure this solution gets added to the list.
I only have 2 laptops and they would never see each other to join the HG. Did not matter which device initiated the HG, it would not work.
As I dug deeper into the problem, I focused on the network layer. Both of the devices on my network are wireless and we use the uverse device as the WAP. one laptop is 3 years old and the other is a new Surface Book. The laptop could ping the surface but the surface could not ping the laptop. I also noted this was all on ipv6. Both can surf the internet no issues. I turned off the firewalls with no results. I then logged into the att router to see if there was any firewall or setting that might impact the traffic. It was here I noticed that the Lenvo was connecting to the wap on 2.4 ghz and the surface was connecting to the wap on 5 ghz. I went to the surface and set the NIC from auto to 2.4 GHZ and BAM, the Lenovo asked to join the Home Group. Still don't know exactly why the router wouldn't route over the 2 frequencies or if there is a setting on the ATT box that impacts this and I can change. but I wanted to get the word out there as another possible cause of not being able to join a Home Group.

    Homegroup Problems - Help

hi, i found that enabling IPv6 for your network adapter solved this problem. worth a quick check? type "network and sharing center" into cortana/search box, select "change adapter settings", right click your wifi or lan connecton and choose "properties", ensure the "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) item is selected (homegroup doesn't work without it apparently)
