Windows 10: How can I change from MBR to GPT and vice versa from GPT to MBR in Windows 10 Home

Hello, Please be nice to tell me to install Windows 10 Home how should the partition be ?. MBR or GPT ?. How can I change the MBR partition in GPT and vice versa from GPT to MBR. Thank you! Wait for response! A good day!

Move Windows 10 from an MBR drive to GPT drive?

You can't move from MBR to GPT (or vice versa.) You have to reinstall.

 

Both MBR and GPT? Why?

Hi L.Will, technically: you can have both MBR and GPT on the same disc but it is unmanageable and unsupported . . .

Windows by default will use GPT, you can check this by going into BIOS/UEFI and see if Secure boot is enabled. If Secure boot is enabled, then Windows is on the GPT partition . . .

As to why or how you have managed to have MBR and GPT on the same Disk, that is a mystery and in reality should not be possible . . .

 

Convert GPT to MBR

if you cant do it using Disk Manager, Try DISKPART in command prompt.

otherwise you will need to find a 3rd party format/paritition program, google around for one.



the only way to go from GPT to MBR is to remove all volumes / parititions from the drive.





EDIT, im farily certain that only XP PRO can read GPT drives, HOME edition cant.
Vista premium and Win 7 can both read GPT drives i think.... i know for sure that the ultimate editions can.
