Windows 10: How can I get update KB4579311 to install?

Winver shows that my PC is running Windows 10 Version 2004 OS Build 19041.508 and it is 64 based PC.


Update KB 4579311 downloads but installation fails but problem is not identified. Error 0x800f0831 is mentioned, but I cannot find any solution.


There is also an optional Feature Update to Windows 20H2 but this appears to be dependent on successful insatllation of KB4579311.


Whilst I know enough to be able to use Windows Update my technical knowledge is very limited so I would very much appreciate any suggestions others may have as to how I might resolve the issue.


I should perhaps also mention that when I restarted my PC after the most recent update was installed, a blue screen resulted with the words GETTING WINDOWS READY DON'T SWITCH OFF YOUR COMPUTER. Thre was no animation to suggest that any activity was going on so I left the PC in that state for about 75 minutes when it automatically restarted. I dont know if that is the new "normal" for Windows 10 updates, or if it indicates some other problem.

Error Installing KB4579311

I am trying to install KB4579311, but it is failing with the error below.

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200B: Security Update for Windows (KB4579311).

Deleting the the SoftwareDistribution and catroot2 folders does not fix the issue.

Please, can someone give an idea on how to fix this?

Password not accepted after KB4579311 update, having tried the following basics six times:-

Double checked correct PW

Entered PW with Virtual screen keyboard

Check Virtual keyboard was UK setting

Changing PW in safe internet mode

PW reset using USB

All my above attempts failed while using KB4579311 update.

Returned system to previous operating system prior to KB4579311 update computer accepts my PW and works all OK. Have paused win 10 updates for one month as it appears KB4579311 update is causing the issue.

Having read previous MRDBeta work around reply post.

KB4579311 is sitting in my Local Disk, Windows, SoftwareDistribution, Download folder. Is it worth me deleting KB4579311 and try to install the patches or through Windows 10
updates again?

OR

Wait for a confirmed work around or update from MS as I need my computer for work and I'm not a computer expert?
