  2. Scam - How Can I Make Sure My Computer Is Safe??

    Thank you for your advise. Sorry for the delayed reply.

    I did a full scan of my laptop with my anti-virus as well as Malwarebytes, and thankfully there were no threats. For security sake I turned my wifi off while running the scans.

    I've also changed the majority of my passwords, just in case. I keep an eye on my Task Manager to make sure there's nothing strange running either.

    A friend of mine is an IT specialist and gave me the following advice, which I pass on should this happen to anyone else;

    - If you suspect you are being hacked DISCONNECT FROM THE INTERNET IMMEDIATELY.

    - Turn off your device as an extra precaution.

    - Run a deep scan using your anti-virus/Malware programs with the device disconnected from the internet.

    - Be wary of any codes a scam caller may give you - this may give them some sort of access.

    - Change your passwords ASAP. In this day and age it is safer to write them down on a piece of paper rather than safe them electronically.

    Another piece of advice I have is to check your Task Manager. With Windows 10 the TM also shows programs running in the background, so run an eye over those as well. I also check the apps and programs set to start when my laptop starts up and disable any
    I don't recognize and/or use/need.

  3. Scam - How Can I Make Sure My Computer Is Safe??

    Okay, I know there are a lot of posts like these but I would like some help so please hear me out.

    This afternoon I received a call from a woman claiming to be from Microsoft Support, saying that they had received warning messages and errors from my computer and wanted to help me. I was skeptical but the more I told her I didn't believe her the more forceful
    she became. I allowed her to "transfer" me to a gentleman who directed me to a site logmein123.me so he could "fix" my PC. By this time I was major suspicious, especially when the site told me that once the program is downloaded and installed a technician
    would have full access to my PC but the gentleman said he wouldn't.

    Now, my problem is that I did download the app but I never installed it - is my PC still at risk?? Please advise.

    P.S I did delete the downloaded exe file and I am checking to see if it's in my app list but I'm still wary

    if your using msi afterburner then just look at the core and memory clock when in a 3d application and youll see what speed its running at , Seems odd you have the ability to overclock your card but not to monitor it especially as the software is set by default to monitor core , memory , temp and fanspeed *Biggrin
