Windows 10: How can I put a picture on my desktop - not as background

I have a picture I want to see on my desktop.

I can only get it on the desktop as a shortcut to the file (jpg) containing the picture (and tiny icon) or as an ico file being a tiny icon too small to see properly.

Note - I use small icons as I have a huge number on the desktop - in any case I want to size the picture myself.

I do not want to change my background. I just want to add the picture itself as a picture on top of my background.

I found "desktop icon settings" but it gives no option to add anything.

It is also not possible to size the ico on the desktop even though it is too small to see properly - you can't size just one and not every other icon.

I have googled extensively and this issue isn't even described anywhere as something anyone wants to know how to do, but to me it's a very simple ask.

Anyone got any ideas how to see my picture against/on top of my current background on the desktop?

I would suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open Desktop Background by right clicking on the desktop clicking Personalization
  
• 
  Click the picture or color that you want to use for your desktop background.
  
• 
  If the picture you want to use isn't in the list of desktop background pictures, click an item in the Picture location list to see other categories, or click Browse to search for the picture on your computer.
  When you find the picture that you want, double-click it. It will become your desktop background.

Lost desktop background

I did a Search & Distroy spyware scan the other day, and one of the suggested "fixes" said something about removing Active Desktop. Like the muppet I am I clicked yes and am now without a desktop background picture.

Does anyone have an idea how to reverse this? If I try to select a picture it's simply not added as a background.

 

After installing the updates, desktop background pictures dissapeared.

This type of issue might occur because of some missing, corrupt or damaged files in your system.

Initially, I suggest you to try the below method and later you can try to set the desktop background and check.

Method 1: I suggest you to run System File Checker, which will check your system for missing, corrupt or damaged files and attempt to fix them.

Method 2: DISM:

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  

• 
  Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.
  

Now, follow the below steps to set desktop background.

• Right click on your desktop background and click on Personalize.
• Click on Background list box and select pictures.
