How can i recover lost partition and data in it

I was running win 7 with 4 partitions , thought to upgrade to win 10. While installing it didn't allowed me to install. I thought i can run diskpart clean on one partition, selected one volume and ran clean command, but it still cleaned all the partitions. Long story short, I cannot boot my OS until I install OS on freshly created single partition. I was told to use partition recovery apps like partition and mount software, Do I have to install OS on it anyways and once OS is installed, instal the partition and mount software for the recovery?

    :)

NO! Don't do anything that involves the hard drive at this point. You will need to use another computer to create a disk recovery boot disk from a recovery program and use that to boot the computer with the affected hard drive and then let the program do its thing.

This is the program I have used in the past, and I think Brink recommends it too:
Active@ Partition Recovery restores deleted damaged volumes &amp disks. Freeware Data Recovery Software Toolkit

You can try this one for free, the company is a pretty good company, but I haven't used this software:
Free Partition Recovery Software - EaseUS Partition Recovery.

Bad news is that you cannot recover your Windows system and applications. You also need another computer for the recovery. Good news is that you can save all your data (documents, photos etc). Remove the disk from your computer and connect it to the other computer either directly or via a USB adaptor. Use a recovery utility such as those mentioned by NavyLCDR. I use GetDataBack. This will scan your disk for data, it will take long. The larger the disk the longer it will take, as it scans sector-by-sector. When data are found you can copy to another disk. NOT TO THE SAME DISK! After you have copied all your data, install your previous Windows version, activate it and update to Windows 10. You will also have to reinstall all applications and then copy back your data from the other disk.

You have learned the hard way that you never mess with disk utilities if you don't know exactly what you are doing. I remember back in the 90's when most computers had MS-DOS. I was executing the help command to see all the available commands. Then I tried them to see what they do. Unfortunately I also tried the format command and wiped my startup disk! Thankfully, when I went back to the store and explained what happened they replaced it. They had seen that many times. Now I'm wiser, I never try utilities that have to do with disks, unless I know exactly what I am doing!

Why not? If only the partition was deleted and nothing was overwritten the recovery software will just redefine the partitions in the partition table and everything should come back - if the file allocation table wasn't messed up.

It depends on the recovery tool. If the tool tries to repair the partition table, then this would work and make the Windows installation usable again. Other tools attempt to read data from an accidentally formatted or damaged disk. In that case they allow copying the data to another disk for obvious reasons, they don't try to fix the source disk. Unfortunately, even if you copy all the files of an application in the Program Files folder to another folder, the application wont work because it wouldn't find the necessary entries in the registry. You must reinstall it. So you cannot use these tools to save the Windows installation and applications, you can only save your data (documents, photos, music, video). If I had both tools, I would first try to fix the partition table. If could not, I would then use the other tool to backup all data before formatting the disk for a clean install.

Thanks to everyone that replied to this post. However, i reffered a frnd of mine facing the same issue since 5 weeks ago (apparently had much patience than me) to this page and he claimed he got it solved with navyLCDR's reply and some degree of help fron spapakons'. 10. Yes, Spapakons is right! Connect your hard drive as an external drive to another system and then utilize recovery application for recovering data from lost partition (Note: do not install the tool or any data in your hard drive as it may overwrite the data from lost partition). This recovery tool will be helpful in recovering lost partition in an easier way. http://kindro.com/software-for-parti...-in-windows-10
