Windows 10: How can I recover my files that got deleted after installing MediaCreationTool on an USB stick?

I had all my important files in the USB stick and I had to install the MediaCreationTool for something else but when I installed it, I noticed that all my saved files were completely ERASED, I've ran scan through a couple Data Recovery applications but they don't seem to really work? Is there a solution to this? If so, PLEASE help me.

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

Try these steps to recover deleted files on usb if they were deleted by virus:

- Press Windows and “R” keys to launch the Run Program.

- Type “cmd” and hit “Enter” key to open Command Prompt window.recover deleted files from usb

- In the Command Prompt window, type chkdsk H: /f and hit “Enter” key (Replace H with the drive letter of the USB drive).recover deleted files usb

- Now, type Y and hit the “Enter” key to proceed.

Type H: (if H is usb drive) to change path and press Enter.

In your USB drive letter path, type this command

attrib *.* -h -r -s /s /d

and hit the Enter key

After this procedure, you will find all deleted files on a newly created folder on your USB drive. But you can change the file extension back to a normal format so as to make those found files functional again.

Thanks for your reply. I used my m8s program and it worked like a dream, recovered all the files and also deleted ones from yrs back, was amazed how well it did. Next step is i will use that Partition Table Doctor to recover the deleted partition. Thanks for the link *Toast :toast:
