Windows 10: how can I reset my type cover?

My type cover (Surface Pro 4) stopped working a couple days ago. There was Windows update around that time, but I did not pay too close attention--I just do them.


Now the type cover puts out gibberish. Some letters work while others type nothing, and still others output weird character strings.


For example, when I type the 'a' key, I get this: `7ypagb

The 'd' key yields: 9=o]d'm


Backspace and Shift work, but the spacebar doesn't. (I'm typing all of this on the touchscreen.)


I have tried:

- detaching and reattaching the type cover

- restarting

- two-button restart

- removing the device in the device manager, deleting the driver, and restarting

- system recovery (keep my files version)


My hardware is clean and in good order, with no signs of distress.

Type Cover issues, sporadic behavior in Windows 10 on Surface Pro 3

  First of all, basic but very important, please make sure you have all and latest
  Windows updates installed and that they were installed while the Cover was attached.

  Have you tried updating or/and uninstalling and reinstalling the cover drivers? If not, here is how:
  

• Click Windows key
• Select Device Manager.
• Select Keyboards.
• Touch and hold over "Surface Type Cover Filter Device”.
• Select Update Driver Software.
• Select “Browse my computer for driver software”.
• Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
  
• Select Surface Type Cover Filter Device from the list.
• Select Next
• Let the install finish.
• Restart your Surface.

Type Cover 2 + Surface 3 problem with Windows 10

Method 1: Run Hardware and device Troubleshooter

I suggest you to run the Hardware and device Troubleshooter. Follow these steps to run
Hardware and device troubleshooter:

• Press Windows key + W and type
  troubleshooting.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• Select View all on the top left corner.
• Click Hardware and device troubleshooter.
• Follow the on-screen instructions to run the troubleshooter.
• Check if issue persists.

Method 2: If the issue still persists, try to install
Type Cover 2 drivers in Compatibility mode and check.

Refer the steps:

a. Download the Drive from the manufacture’s website, Right click on the setup file and select Properties.

b. Click the compatibility tab, tick the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows.

Type Cover 2 not working with WIndows 10 (Release)

I have a Surface Pro 2 with the Type Cover accessory. After updating to Windows 10 yesterday, my type cover keys no longer work (though the mouse touch pad part seems just dandy). I found this help article from Microsoft and I have followed as much of these steps as makes sense based on the situation descriptions, but still have no luck.

Has anyone experienced this issue yet and has there been any type of firmware updates / touch pad updates / settings that need to be changed from default to make this work?
