Windows 10: How can I search my computer....is there a way on 10???

Win10.1607 removes that setting.

Mystere mentioned using the Documents: tag in 1607, there are more tags across the top - it's easier to figure out if you press the drop down arrow at the top (the icons also have text)

As well as clicking the 'Find results in Documents' icon at the top of the Cortana dialogue box, you can achieve the same with text like this.

= 'it's not there any more if you've upgraded to the anniversary build 'cos MS has taken it away'


All of which- and more- is why I don't use Cortana to search for files and folders.

Make your life easy- get Ultrasearch (free) or one of the other such tools.

 

I didn't update to the Anniversary Edition. still trying to get used to 10.

Is the Anniversary Build any better than 10? Is it free?

Hi, Free as in any Windows update. Trouble-free? Read about the problems some people have that MS is said to be working on.

Confusing? Well, they've tweaked some GUI aspects and changed things without informing people- endless questions here about 'Has the start menu changed and how do we get the old one back?' by people who haven't read the many articles about it- just search for
"Windows 10" anniversary edition
- add problems, changes etc for a range of articles.

A very few programs are incompatible after it.

Recommendation- try it and see: else defer it (not available on Home edition).

Best practice (as always): Use disk imaging before upgrading.

(everyone should use disk imaging routinely anyway e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + its boot disk + external storage- allows recovery without technical help to a previously working Windows configuration- even if your hard disk fails).
